If you are going to do that I would recommend you to take a look at roller bridge and maybe locking tuners. Those will keep the guitar in tune better.

would you suggest me getting the tailpiece put on or would i be better off not putting it on?

If you want it, put it on. And yeah, look at what hminh87 suggested.

The only real downsides are tuning stability and it'll probably hurt sustain a bit.

ive heard that the holes where the stopbar will show...is that true?
