I'm building a rack set up so far containing a mesa fathom head and a bbe sonic maximizer. What else would be cool to throw in there? I'm thinking a rack tuner and a furman power conditioner but I was wondering what you guys though. Also suggestions on a good rack tuner (other than the korg one) would be appreciated. thanks guys.

A shelf for odd bits and pieces... Extra leads, a few picks, Spare microphone etc etc.
"Whats that noise??"

A power conditioner is a great investment. Prevents a lot of typical funny business with venue power and is a great way to consolidate you rack power supply down to one plug. I would consider it a must for any properly racked equipment.

What does the DBX 166 and Sansamp do? Isn't the Sansamp a compressor?

the DBX is a compressor/gate/limiter

every bassist needs a compressor in their pedal or rack set up for sure..

My rack is an 8-space containing:

-Furman power conditioner
-Korg DTR-2000
-BBE 482i Sonic Maximizer
-dbx 266XL comp/gate
-Mesa/Boogie Bass 400

The BBE doesn't get used live because it's essentially a low boost, mid cut, and high boost. It sounds fantastic when playing by yourself or even when recording, but live it really makes you disappear. The 266XL has the gate turned on just SLIGHTLY, so it cuts noise ONLY when I'm not playing, and it doesn't cut out my quieter playing. The compressor is on just a titch to keep things even. And the Boogie... well, it just does its thing
