Had an idea the other day, wondering if it was possible, or if anyones tried. I put a hardtail bridge on my strat, so i have lots of room in the back from where the trem springs were, and i have a broken dunlop wha. so, what if i took all the electronics out of the casing, put them in the back cavity, and wired from the pickups to the wha, to the output, and replaced a tone knob with the thing that controls the wha? Don't know if that made sense to anyone...

what is a wha? do you mean wah?

Saying the Red Hot Chili Peppers have no talent is like saying Guy Fawkes didn't have an epic mustache.

Dont forget room for a battery for the thing

White shirt, white hat, white trousers (cheap ones) and cover the bottom half in fake blood, also have to write 'Tampax' on the shirt, so people know what you are and can then be disgusted.

it's possible you just to replace the tone knob with this wheel for the sweep and add a switch to turn the wah on and off. good luck if you go through with it

It is very possible. Just replace the switch with this:

Replace the pot with this:
http://www.smallbearelec.com/Detail.bok?no=362
And replace your input jack with a stereo jack. Attach the black lead of your battery to the "sleeve" and the the ground from the wah to the "tip." That way it will only draw power when the guitar is plugged in:

That would all work fine, but it wouldn't be a pitch shifter like a tremolo.

well the case is cracked pretty much in half, it still works. and i think i'll try making a bar for it too. i took apart an old guitar hero controller, and i hooked up the trem bar of it to the wah, and it works. so i'll put the guts and battery pack in the back cavity, and cut a slot for the bar in the bottom of the pickguard. if all works out, i'll put pics up.
#9
i don't really think the bar would work unless the pot was installed sideways under the pickguard. Its not as easy as take it out and put it in the guitar. How are you going to wire it into the guitar?

mad props for trying this, i had the exact same idea about a month ago, but i know i wouldnt be able to do it.

Idea for electronic tremolo...possible?
1 - the so-called tremolo on a guitar is actually a vibrato.
it changes the pitch aka frequency at which the string vibrates.

tremolo changes the amplitude (loudness) of the note.

wah is neither of these.
it changes the tone of the sound by changing the frequency response.
aka the ratio of harmonic content.

bottom line:
what you are doing will not be the same as a vibrato,
but it might be something interesting.
go for it.

Hate to break this to you, but a wah pedal pretty much IS a tone knob....so you'd just be swapping a tone knob for a tone knob.

True, Mark.

but a wah is a tone-knob-on-steroids...

EDIT:

Tone Knob

Wah Pedal

Did anybody else notice that he said the wah was broken?
yes, supergerbil did.

in that case all you'd need to do is hook your tone knob up to an active mid-boost circuit.

well, kinda...

the knob on the mid-boost changes the amplitude of the peak in the frequency response.

the "knob" on a wah changes the center frequency of the peak.
and the "Q" of the circuit is high. very sharp, narrow peak.

okay then, replace both tone controls with a parametric EQ system?

I'm fishing here
