I think they are good jack-of-all-trades amp, but they don't do anything particularly well. They sound like a tube amp with a POD in the effects loop.. and I don't particularly like PODs to begin with.

They are great amps if you want to play anything and everything, but you could get a better amp that is suited to one genre. Overall, it's still pretty damn good. Anyone who's played one for more than 5 minutes will find that they're worth every penny.

You gotta turn them up loud before you decide whether or not it sucks. It sounds a load better than SS spiders. And you just can't turn up SS Spiders. It'll make your ears bleed. But the effects suck on either amp, especially the reverb.

They're great amps for practice and for people who want to have a little of everything.

I've got the 112 for home practice, and its great for when I use a little of every model, and they generally sound good. Still, I've got to admit that some models are better and more spot-on for the amp its supposed to be modelling.

I find the high gain models a little over the top and not always spot on. That's what I then got a Krank Rev Jr Pro for.

ive had an old spider 2x12 and a spider 2 head, I have also played the Valve.......for many hours mind you, and they are 2 compleatly diff amps. the Valve sounds really really good. the only thing i would say about buying the valve is that if it breaks down, thats it......gotta send it off for god knows how long (blew up my spider 2 head lol), all im sayin is that if u dont plan on beating the shit outta it, i.e. playing out every night, loading and unloading, id say get it. its is very much worth the price tag.

Then he should get a Pod, they sound better and it won't cost him as much. And a soundman will like him more.

GG&A is so dumb now. If someone has an opinion, "bandwagon this, bandwagon that!". Shit like that is the reason I don't come on here anymore. Its funny how if you go on HC, they make fun of UGers for certain things. They are completely right about the UG stereotypes. You guys act like a bunch of little kids (like most of this forum actually is) when someone disagrees with you.

That said, I have played with both of them quite a bit and I don't like them. Either of them. I don't think there is much of an improvement. The cleans on both are okay, but the higher the distortion goes, the worse it sounds.

I've been part of this forum since 06', it's very easy to spot bs posts. A good majority of the time these opinions are not opinions, they're some kid regurgitating what he/she has read elsewhere, had little to no experience with said gear, considers watching clips on youtube a good way to make decisions on gear, and/or regurgitates what they've read to boost their post count. Sounds lame, but that's the internet for you.

Hey, if you hate this forum so much then I have an idea.

TS, you really need to spend time with that amp. Don't get all caught up with all the bells and whistles.

Actually listen to the amp and make a decision by yourself based on what you hear.

Personally, I wouldn't touch the amp. It's a glorified Spider and it's too much money.

i own a spider valve 212 & i have to say that it is actually quite good...obviously it sounds average (but still not terrible) at low volumes but once you get past 3 on the master the tubes really kick in & then there is some serious tone to be had..& for high gain the Mesa models are actually really great sounding IMO but it does require a lot of tweaking to get just the right sound that you want. Ive gigged with it & it most definitely does cut through as long as you keep your prescence around 5 & dont scoop. The cleans are pretty good on it too but i think the mid gain models are sometimes a bit iffy..but i dont really use them so its alright for me...
Oh & most of the presets are fairly useless or are alright as a starting point for your own tone at best but i wouldnt use them on their own or you'll just be dissapointed.

I actually got it second hand so it was fairly cheap but im not sure i wouldve payed the full price for it cuz like others have said there are better amps for specific styles at that sort of price

Btw i retubed the preamp tubes with some JJs yesterday...it is sounding pretty sweet

the spidr valve is a very good amp. I dont get why all the bashing. It sounds like a tube amp, end of.

is it the best sounding tube amp out there???? no sirreeee. but if you want versitility, lots of effects with the ability to store patches (and NOT have to do the tap dance routines!!!) AND tube sound, then whats the problem???

the bassman is a totally different amp, with completely different features, aimed at a different market... why are you even comparing the two???

anyone who thinks it sounds the same as the spider ss doesnt know their arse from elbow... sorry...
