I'm doing a radio show at school next semester on 90s music, and I'm looking for some ideas. My plan for the show is to pick two bands that had songs from the decade and to talk about the bands and play some sweet music from an awesome time. That's why I'm here enlisting your help.

I'd like to get some ideas for bands to profile and some suggestions of songs to play. I'd rather not play the hits, because people can listen to those more often. They don't have to be bands that were only popular in the 90s (one hit wonders). The only requirement is that they released something during that time. Also, the song had to have been released during the 90s. I'd like to stay within the decade if I can (since that's the premise of the show).

So if you have any suggestions, post away.

Thanks!

Metal doesn't hold hands, it gets head in the van before the show. Seriously.

Nirvana and Offspring were definitely getting played. I'm on the fence about Blink and Green Day, only because a lot of people know most of their songs (at least a lot of my potential listeners).

To jimmyslashpage (my internet likes to poop on me when I try to quote):

Awesome suggestions. I could take up a whole show (only an hour) on half of those. Black Crowes would be great since most people only know a few of their songs, if not just one (She Talks to Angels).

Thanks a lot for the suggestions. I'll definitely have the link up when I start doing the show (won't be until January).

Here's a list of good rock bands that released great (in my opinion) albums in the 90's:
-Flaming Lips (Transmissions From The Sattelite Heart, Clouds Taste Metallic, The Soft Bulletin)
-Radiohead (OK Computer, The Bends)
-Wilco (AM, Being There, Summerteeth)
-Sonic Youth (Goo)
-Jeff Buckley (Grace)
-Tool (Enema)
-Pavement (Slanted and Enchanted, Crooked Rain, Wowee Zowee)
-Tom Waits (Bone Machine)
-Talk Talk (Laughing Stock)
-Phish (Billy Breathes, A Live One)
-The Verve (A Storm In Heaven, Urban Hymns)

I don't know if your interested in electronic or hip-hop, but if you are, you could do:
-Tribe Called Quest (The Low End Theory, Midnight Marauders)
-The Roots (Things Fall Apart)
-DJ Shadow (Endtroducing...)
-Aphex Twin (Selected Ambient Works Vol. 1, '85-92)
-Boards of Canada (Music Has The Right To Children)
-Squarepusher (Hard Normal Daddy, Music Is A Rotted One Note)
-Autechre (LP5, although that would be pretty challenging for the average listener)
-Primal Scream (Screamadelica)

Sorry for the uber long post, but I hope this helps.
