If you just want the ability to do multi-tracking you can use Audacity, it's free. I'm sure it doesn't have all the features as other software. But you can give it a try and experiment and if you don't like it, you're out nothing.

Thanks I already tried it it has limits and lately won't even load on my vista PC .

Any version of Cubase will work just fine.

Ok I down loaded Cubase 4.1 but says not compatible with vista .. before the download It said supports windows plat form so what gives ?
