Hey all, I'm a noob to recording, so I came here for help. When I first set up my SM57, I put it right up net to the grill cloth and it sounded like SHIT. Muddy, fizzy, undefined, unclear...anyways I backed it up off the grille about 4-5 inches and angled it slightly towards the outside of the speaker. Could you guys please check my profile for a really quick tone test and tell me how it sounds, and what if anything could be improved? It's a really huge improvement from what it was before and I am pleased, however nothing is every 100% perfect so I ask for UG's wisdom in guiding me Ignore the playing, I improv rather sloppily The mic'd rig is in my signature.

Sounds great man, has a classic sound IMO. I wish I could get that kind of distortion out of my POS amp.
