I heard it was a SS amp, might as well get a HD147 instead prbly be more versatile, and maybe better.

Truth. If I remember right, this is that Fender amp that's rated at something absurd like 550W because SS distortion sounds like bawls. I play blues first and foremost, and metal second, so I prefer a little bit more of a creamy, tube-y sound than the synthetic sound of SS amps. I have no idea what you mean by SE when you say Engl, but Engls are AMAZING amps.

I was in a nu-metal band when I was 15. I hated the top 3 strings (G,B, and E). I wondered why guitars even had them.

He is talking about the Engl Special Edition.

As far as the Metalhead, I tried one a few years ago and they aren't really anything special... definitely can find a much better amp for the same price.

Yup, its nothing special, if you looking for something similiar with a better tone go with the Crate Shockwave. Its supossedly the same internals as Ampeg amps with alot more wattage. But I would still go tube...

terrible, terrible amps. semi-decent death metal tones (lol at paradox) at very low volumes.

horrible built in effects too.

once you start jamming with a drummer it's almost unbearable.

Look up a vid on youtube of Yngwie Malmsteen playing through the Metalhead. Not even he can make it sound good, trust me.
Then there's this band called Slice The Cake...

Bunch of faggots putting random riffs together and calling it "progressive" deathcore.
Stupid name.
Probably picked "for teh lulz"

I swear some people on this board talk a load of shit.

Darrel Abbott used Randall solid state amps on all the Pantera albums and his sound was great.

Im sorry but I would never class Dimebags tone as Great.... Great player yes, great tone no.... And I have owned a Randall and own all of Panteras albums... So dont try and pull that card...

First off, I've actually tried one so I can say from first hand experience that they sound horrible and definitely are not worth the money.

Second, Dimebag used RANDALLS - a company which is renowned for making amazing solid state amps... not that his tone was all that amazing or anything.

i wouldnt say it was horrid...its not like your tone is anything special either...though your bassman is pretty sex but that doesnt make up for your guitar skills.

Honestly like half the people on here cant even play, they critize others tone but when you go to that persons profile, they have a tone of a horse being kept under water screaming for its life and you can hear the people just doing downward picking like a complete guitar noob...but they say they've been playing for many years.all and all, most people on here can hardly play and have "Horrid" tones. dont think you can critize others when you have a tone that sounds like shit, and then is covered with shitty playing.

First off, you make absolutely no sense.

Second, my clip on my profile was recorded with a mic that is built into my laptop - what do you expect - the clips that they were posted of the fender metalhead were obviously professionally recorded and produced and they still sound horrible.

And who are you to judge anyone's playing when you have never heard them actually play anything?

Before you start criticizing why don't you show us you're "skills" and "tone" with a clip of your own?

Most of the people on here record with substandard recording gear, which is a very limiting factor in how great of a tone you can get in a clip.

So, in short, show us a clip or GTFO

first off, if it didnt make sense..then how were you able to reply?

Second, you go to there profile to check how they play and what there tone is like...that how you find out how they play

Nice playing, not really a fan of fusion, too much shred not enough feeling. Pretty generic shred/fusion tone, nothing special. You're a good player, but pretty boring to me.

I'm guessing your amps weren't mic'd since it sounded way too reverby.

Nope just the mic on the canon cam...not bad for a person who picked up a guitar a year and a half ago eh?

I will say that your playing, and your friends, are pretty good. Better than I. Playing clean leads thru a Frontman or Metalhead or whatever that was can be had. I have a FM212 and I will say it sounds a lot like my amp.

I think you guys would be amazed at how well you would sound thru a Twin Reverb, Blues Deluxe or Classic 30. Blues Jr too.

Your pick attack and tone would come out even more. Good playing either way.

do some jamming with chords and rhythm parts and provide some dirt.

^true, i prefer seeing modesty (as most guitarists prolly do) rather than, "yea...you like that? of course you do. only been playing since this morning."

you get what i mean. anyway, you'll find that arrogance and cockiness will turn a lotta potential guitarist friends from wanting to jam with ya.

true it can be bad, but the guy is bang on with his playing and also about people here who only talk a good game or have a terrible ear (musically and tonally).

if you let your playing do the talking it will speak volumes Tenacious.

just as long as people don't get an etlist attitude about their playing, it's all good.

personally, i think there's a big difference between the up and coming amateur guitarist who WANTS to learn what good tone should be (subjective, i know) and is welcoming to all types of critiquing and constructive criticism (311zoso reminds me of this back when i first met him in these forums, real great guy. hard to hurt his feelings haha). even though i consider myself intermediate, i try to be this way; and then there's the amateur/intermediate guitarist who thinks he/she already knows what good tone is, and it's as simple as that- no regards for the fact that other people maybe have different tastes. refuses to let two tones co-exist as 'great' b/c only theirs is acceptable. thankfully, i don't see too many of these.
