Not my first time reading in here, but it is my first time posting, so... gentle, please? This is a song I wrote a few weeks ago, it's about how there's one thing in the world that I would perform a Faustian bargain for, but that I'm not going to. Anyone figure out what the title of the song is a reference to?

Mississippi Cross
There’s a well in this town, it’s run dry
And there’s no more well in your heart
But the world’s tilted on it’s axis for you
And tonight it’s going back to start

I think it was you who once said
Do not pass go, do not collect on your head
It was my life that you stole away
Didn’t mean to do it, it just happened that way

I’m through chasing ghosts
There’s a bounty on my soul
But I ain’t sellin’ it tonight
I’m gonna be everything you wouldn’t let me be

I’ll grab another beer and sit
There’s nothing going on but shit
Your world has finally found hard ground
When if falls out from under you, I hope I am around.

And times have never been (never been)
Much better for me
Someday I’ll see you in our bar
And you will see that I’m not me

I’m through chasing ghosts
There’s a bounty on my soul
But I ain’t sellin’ it tonight
I’m gonna be everything you wouldn’t let me be

i, personally, like it. it almost seems that if you were to sing it, you could sing it in any style(acoustic, rap-ish, hard rock type.) keep it up.

kind'a a folk/alt country/acoustic rock type deal, actually. Think... M. Ward, Bright Eyes, Damien Rice, Jason Mraz, Townes Van Zandt, Bruce Springsteen and Bob Dylan all rolled up into one and then defined as a genre, that's kind'a what I play and what my songs are written as.

ok, there's a recorded solo demo of this up in my profile if anyone's interested.
