Hey, my brother bought a new amp because his Peavey Studio 112 (almost 15 years old) was getting too unreliable. What happens is when you turn it on, it's really quiet, and then if you do something like palm mute and pick really hard, the amp sort of "wakes up" and becomes normal.

Can anybody guess why this is happening, and how to fix it? He said I can keep it if I fix it, so I figure why not?

open the back and look for a loose wire, thats what happened to mine

Here's the back of the amp:



I assume you mean I should open up the compartment with all the electronics inside?

I don't think it's the wires going to the speaker, but I might replace them for good measure.

I'm also thinking of replacing the speaker with a Celestion Vintage 30 if I can find one cheap.

What do you think?
