I'm in the market for a new cabinet, preferably 2x12. Something cheap but at the same time something with a lot of low end and handles high gain nicely. I like the amount of bass/air pushed with a 4x12 but that's just overkill (and I'm not too good on cash right now). rough budget estimate is $4-500

Can I get some links or which specific model? I looked up VHT and it looks like it's beyond my price range.

Vader is a good choice for you it seems.
used Mesa and maybe VHTs.

Or i always see a lot of Genz Benz G-Flex cabs for sale, i got mine for $275 and it sounds perfect with my Engl, great for metal, huge low end. You'll want to dial a little bass out of your amp.
