i know everyone hates these threads, but here i go anyways

im gettin a new guitar for christmas, i figured since im bored i'll start looking around now. it will be almost impossible to try out any guitars except deans and washburns cause thats all that my local guitar shop carries, and the closets guitar center is too far away.

i should be gettin around $450 usd for cristmas, and i plan to pawn my squire strat and squire sp-10 amp to add a little. so first question is how much do u guys think i'll be able to get for those?

now, i like the neck on my squire, believe it or not. its pretty thin compared to the other guitars ive had experience playing. i dont like the shitty tremelo system or the crappy electronics

i play anything from blues, to classic rock, to even a little metallica and iron maiden

i have a generic wal-mart amp and a digitech rp250.

if theres any info ive forgotten to include, just let me know

i honestly would say new amp first.

edit: you think to yourself, "why ever would he suggest that?". i said that because:

A) squiers are a great starting guitar, and should last a while.

B) you are playing through a "wal-mart" amp. as of right now, a majority of your tone (or lack thereof) is coming from that amp.

C) even if you play a top of the line custom-shop strat through that amp, i can nearly guarantee you will here little difference in tone.

leading me to say "get a new amp"

im fine with my tone right now, and if my band ever gets off the ground and we start gigging my singer has a marshall half-stack i plan to use. i need something with more playability and something that stays in tune better

i like the tone i get with the rp250 for bedroom practice, and like i said my singer has a marshall halfstack to use for gigs if i need it

with regaurds to the guitar, go test some. You will have to do it in the shop as they'll have a decent amp to try it on so you'll hear the difference etc. So if you really wont get a new amp first its a case of going out and trying different guitars.

I don't knowif you'd be into these, but I've heard good stuff about them

lot's of options that are supposed to be good value for the money and then you can save some bucks for a better amp... maybe this one http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/product/Crate-V-Series-V50112-50W-1x12-Tube-Guitar-Combo-Amp?sku=487054

American strats have 22 frets and they're too expensive for you...

i can't think of any reason to use even 21 frets though...
