Ok, well, about 7-8 months ago, I ceased speaking to my father. If you guys want to hear the whole story, I'll tell it, but all the same I'd rather not...just ask if you do.

He keeps calling, and wanting to speak to us. We blatantly refuse.

Now, because he says he has nothing left here, he's probably going to move to Idaho, and there goes our only form of support outside of my mother. My mom BARELY makes enough to scrape past our rent check every month, so I have no idea how we're going to survive without his child support.

tl;dr: My father, only support money provider, is possibly moving, wtf do I do??

EDIT: Here's the story...

Ok, about mid april, we were down the hill at my grandparent's house. Here's some background info first, my dad moved into my grandparents house after him and my mom split up. They split up do to the fact that my dad is a drunken moron who threatened to kill here several times. He beat us, and he was constantly drunk, never around when we needed him, was always gone...and so on. He went to rehab THREE ****ING TIMES and is still drinking. We went down the hill as normal, and he was there of course. We just sat and talked for a while, then came dinner.

Thats when the shit hit the fan. My grandma had made my grandpa a hamburger, and my dad had picked it up. My grandma asked him to put it down and my dad threw it in her face screaming "**** YOU" at the top of his lungs. My grandpa stepped in to calm him down, and my dad threatened to kill him. My dad looked at me and told me that I had to take his side in the argument or he'd take my guitar back to the store. I told him I wanted to stay out of it. My grandpa told him to shut the **** up, they ended up rolling on the floor fighting. My grandma threatened to call the cops, my dad took my guitar. On the way out he told us he was done, he wanted nothing to do with us. He dented my guitar's headstock putting it in his trunk. He sent it back to us later that night....but since that night we havent spoken to him. He even has the nerve to call us and ask what he did.

There you go....

Thread over.

Yeah because everyone knows that

and
B) He should obviously give up his time needed for education to try and bring money in

You blatently refuse to associate with your father but still expect him to make payments to help you and your family get by?

I'm pretty sure he'll still have to pay child support even if he lives in another state.

I think why you stopped talking to him is kind of important.

The best advice I can give you is if you're old enough to get a job and if you have any siblings have them get a job doing whatever they can to help support the family.

honestly I would answer his call and try to work out with him.

it's been 8 months.

8 months with no talking to your family and being lonely and ****ing with drugs will turn you arround.

If he hasn't changed one bit, then I suggest going to court making sure he keeps paying child support.

Well if he lives in Idaho, you gotta get your mom to go through the Child Support Administration or whatever it's called. They'll track him down and if he refuses to pay, they will garnish his wages every month until you turn 18. My dad left us before I was born, he moved to Tennessee while we were living in Maryland. He didn't pay a dime for 5 or 6 years, and my mom finally took him to court where it was ruled that he had to pay off the $7,xxx and it would be taken from his paycheck because of his refusal to pay before. I'll call my mom and ask her what she did to get him garnished and everything....best of luck buddy

He probably regrets what he's done and wants to make amends.

That said, it by no means excuses his behaviour. It's entirely up to you. IMHO you'd serve yourself better by talking to him in a calm rational manner, and tell him that you were extremely upset by his unacceptable behaviour and that if he continues to drink, it'll only be a roadblock in your relationship.

In my own experience, my father has a pretty crippling crack/perscription pill addiction. I've tried talking to him about it but he doesn't want to listen. I made my peace with him, telling him exactly how I felt and that if he wanted a relationship with me, he'd have to give it up. I haven't talked to him since, but it was a liberating feeling to get all of that off my chest and let him know how I felt. If you try shutting him out, in some way it'll always gnaw at your soul.

Closure really helps. It sounds sappy and cheesy, but it'll let you move on with your life.

-Edit-
The only way he'll change is if he really wants to change. Telling him that you'll not have any contact unless he does may be an incentive, but don't be shocked if he doesn't. You have your own life to live and that kind of behaviour will only hold you back. Once you've cleared the air, go ahead and shut him out unless he makes the effort.
