I have a handwritten piece of sheet music for "Autumn Leaves" (However, it's a very basic primer piece). In the 9th measure, on a C note (3rd space), there's a line that goes through it and curves upwards. The line stops just above the 1st line (It looks like a shepard's cane). I'm trying to figure out what this symbol means.

I apologize for not having it scanned or a picture of it. I don't have either a scanner or printer.

an eight note perhaps? Although these go down so not sure. Picture would help.
