Its like Opera.
Pull a layman off the street and he will say the viking lady is just wailing.
Get a connoisseur to listen, and he can repeat every word spoken.

Requires a bit of ear "training" if you will.

*shrugs*
With Opera, you can hear that something is going on, even if it sounds like wailing, you can hear that the pitch changes, that the instrumentation is playing something, that there's words, etc. Even if you don't like it, you can hear what's going on.

But eh.

That's the thing.

I'm not pretending to hear something magnificent, I actually DO. You hear static, I hear breathing music.

The best Avant Garde musicians are able to turn the sounds of pots, pans, propellers, elevators, and mixing cement into music. I'm not kidding.

You just have to have your ear tuned it its "frequency" I guess.

They never fail to impress.
I shit my pants every time I listen to either album.

Incredibly stoked to see these guys at Maryland.

They reminded me of The Locust with gutterals. I hate The Locust, maybe i'll give a different song a spin..

Their only two albums.

First album, Seepia, is frantic obliteration through aural hypnox Cthulhu.
Second album, Outre, is omnipotent crawling unfathomable chaos Cthulhu.

since it's not 'trve grind', it must clearly be bad

Nah, it's got more to do with the fact that everything they produced is garbage.

As for Portal, not the kind of music I would normally listen to. Though they seem to be quite enjoyable in the right mood and situation.

I wish my ear wasn't messed up right now so that I could actually attempt to listen to this guys, they sound pretty good so far, but I can't really hear out of my right ear so I can't analyze.

PTC I downloaded Seepia last night and it frantically obliterated my face. Seriously. I wish I had've heard Seepia first. I'm still no fan of Outre, but Seepia owns. Hard.

Today during lunch break at work I sat in my car and put Seepia at almost full volume, leaned back and closed my eyes. Was the first time I heard them like that, and it was definitely intense. Very inspiring.

Omnipotent crawling chaos was just at the right time for me. It's a really, just, I don't even know how to explain it...it was perfect.
#102
Check them out, and then go back to them when you're in the right mood. They drowned out the whole world for me this morning.
#103
Which one sounds less chaotic? I'm trying to get into them but it seems I need to ease into it first

Not sure, but they base their sound around chaos...so it may be a bit difficult to find something.

I'd give Black Houses a listen, it's a little less chaotic.

Rumors have it that a new album is coming Nov. 29

http://hearwaxmedia.com/1929/portal-to-release-new-album

Not really a rumour
Taken from another forum I'm a member of, talking about the November 28th show in Brisbane (that I'm attending )
BlackOmen is the guitarist, I believe.
Quote by sknoll
is this the album launch for Portals new album ?

Quote by BlackOmen
Without using that term....
The new album will be available at the show, announcements will be administered via the usual channels next week.

Ta-da!

I, unfortunately, did not create it. It resulted from a conversation on another forum. Friend of mine made it.
Regardless, Larvae is absolutely putrid.
#113
Give your friend huge props for that

Larvae wasn't one of their best songs, and was easily their most understandable. Not too scabby.
#114
Right, gonna buy one of the albums tomorrow. Impulse buy. Will grab the first one that's named, since I really can't make my mind up. Gogogo!

and I'm checking them out, sorta makes me think Blut Aus Nord and Demilich lol listening to ... Omnipotent Crawling Chaos but well you know... their own spin and intricacies
