Is your name by any chance a reference to Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas?

I' leaving for Vegas in about 4 hours

Oh god I remember you from IM
No its mine. He, along with countless others, have taken my work.
I dont know why people are accusing me of stealing whomevers avatar. I made this avatar on my own time, with my own hard work and labor.

Dude what the hell?! Did you NOT see the post DIRECTLY ABOVE YOURS?!??! This "essay" was really just random thoughts strong together over song lyrics. Its funny seeing all of the serious replies but yours correcting mine directly after I explained is both hilarious and sad.

I read the whole thing, I just thought that it was an interesting topic.
But I really don't know what song everyone is talking about. Call me stupid.

*looks up lyrics to Don't Stop Believin'*

Just a small town girl, livin in a lonely world
She took the midnight train goin anywhere
Just a city boy, born and raised in south detroit
He took the midnight train goin anywhere

A singer in a smokey room
A smell of wine and cheap perfume
For a smile they can share the night
It goes on and on and on and on

Strangers waiting, up and down the boulevard
Their shadows searching in the night
Streetlight people, living just to find emotion
Hiding, somewhere in the night

Working hard to get my fill,
Everybody wants a thrill
Payin anything to roll the dice,
Just one more time
Some will win, some will lose
Some were born to sing the blues
Oh, the movie never ends
It goes on and on and on and on

(chorus)

Dont stop believin
Hold on to the feelin
Streetlight people

We're living in a lonely world, people.

Don't get me wrong, I'm no emo kid. But the alienating effects of this modern world just get to be too much sometimes, you know what I mean? All this advanced technology that's supposed to make our lives easier...I appreciate it and everything, I mean ****, there are so many things I wouldn't have learned without the internet...but I feel like in the long run, the autonomy these advances are supposed to have granted us is just an illusion and all they really do is make us more isolated from eachother.

Stop what you're doing for a second and seriously think about this ****. All the people you'll never truly know because you've grown accustomed to interfacing with the world through technology, through the filtered light of a computer monitor or from behind the windshield of your glorified metal box. Beautiful strangers waiting, just waiting, up and down the boulevard, their shadows searching in the night. People living just to find emotion, who will never know eachother or achieve the intimacy which they seek. You can't just walk up and befriend someone randomly in the street, not anymore. Maybe in rural towns it's different, I wouldn't know as I'm just a city boy and this is how it is in the city. You'd sooner get laid off Myspace. In the public realm, outside of certain events that encourage unity like rock concerts, church gatherings and such -- we're all locked off from eachother.

Believing in this dog-eat-dog bull**** competitive reality we've been brainwashed into by the media only makes it worse. Working hard to get your fill, paying anything to roll the dice just one more time -- and where does it get us? ****ing nowhere! Take your average ****ty American job, throw in a marriage, kids, 3 or 4 different types of insurance depending on how afraid of death you are, and all the other bull**** hasslement that life throws at you -- and what do you get? An empty life where you have no time to develop yourself, feed your soul, all the truly important **** that we need in order to be humans, ****ing real compassionate humans. The movie never ****ing ends, it just goes on and on and on and on...**** it. And then there are people like me who will never even get THAT far, to the point where I actually have a ****ing shot at getting out of the rat race. It's not my fault I'm stuck in this situtation. I was born and raised in the blighted ****hole of south Detroit, my family had to move here for work and now I'm the only ****ing black dude around, who's gonna hire me? I won't be able to afford or have time for college for years.

I can still sense that secret world of telepathic love in small, isolated moments: going to a rock show, seeing a singer in a smoky room laying his heart on the line, blasting me outside of my life for that one indescribable moment of beauty when the song climaxes, the smell of wine and cheap perfume floating in the air. But then it's over, and it's back to the daily grind. Sometimes I just want to get out, take a random train going anywhere in the middle of the ****ing night and just disappear, leave all this **** behind. I try to hold onto that feeling, but...****, I can't even articulate it. The fear takes over and I'm back to square one. A lot of you won't understand this, and that's fine, I don't expect you to if you haven't been through what I've been through.

I guess some people were born to sing the blues.
Quote by This_Kidd

Still you get serious replies. Maybe your bull**** story struck a nerve man!

I know hahaahahha But for the rest of us
Wow, I thought maybe one more analytical reply at the most. I guess people are just skipping the other pages. Just like they will probably skip this post too...

Too emo to be effective, and too many expletives for it to really seem intelligent.

You've got to read between the lines.

shall I explain it all again?

Well know one thing: you're not alone. Really. We're all in this together. I also take a look around and I am horrified by the Myspace generation, these kids who practically have never read books, who can text flawlessly but can barely articulate their thoughts when it really counts. On one hand, I'm worried for America. On the other, I'm glad that the competition is weak, which leaves more doors open for me, as long as I educate myself.

Very good point. We could roll the dice our whole lives and work just for that extra fill, but it all comes down to us educating ourselves. Stay ahead of the competition.

I see simple one word answers.

No, Im just a city boy with no friends.

Gonzo, doesn't Duke normally handle all the writing? Just keep being a lawyer.

I need to vent it our every now and again. And btw,
WTF HAPPENED TO OUR LEAGUE!?!?!
Quote by Lacquer_Head
You're not even gonna answer my questions? Well that was a waste of time.

I also worked out that you're appoxomately 16, which explains it all.

I would answer your question but my answer would go on and on and on and on...

Yup, and its only getting better

Weeelll... you can just sit down and think about the negatives but in the end, even though reflecting once in a while is good, getting stuck in the loop of thinking "this **** sucks" isn't going to get you anywhere. I mean, it might just be where you live, but people round here communicate. You get your social outcasts but why the **** should everyone be talking to everyone all the time? From where comes the need of constant social comunication? Sure, people are being drawn into the internet, media etc. but face it, that's the way it is and nothing's gonna change it. And I'm pretty sure the situation isn't as severe as you are making it out to be. Haven't you got a group of friends? Do YOU feel sucked in by the internet?
Quote by Matt_Malmsteen
I didn't find that too impressive, or impressive at all really.

I mean, for one the structure of the essay was terrible. The fact it had lots of swearing just made it look bad and sound bad, it kind of loses effect if it sounds casual.

Although I do agree with what the person is saying a bit, I think the writer is really over stating the amount that we don't socialise face to face anymore.

Also the way he puts things...to be honest it sounds like some bitter middle-aged guy who's not had a woman since his teens, has a crap low paid job, no prospects, no ambitions...and so he writes a really crap essay and puts it onto the internet.

EDIT: Great prediction^^.
