I chose Metal and Punk, but I mostly listen to Gothic Rock stuff from the early 80's/late 70's such as Bauhaus or Siouxsie and the Banshees. I'm also really into Industrial, Aggrotech, EBM, Breakcore and Harsh/Power Noise.
I've always lived in Glasgow, and I'm currently studying at Strathclyde myself It's got a fantastic reputation as a university, and it has great links with industry so the job prospects are pretty awesome. Glasgow as a city is nowhere near as bad as people are saying. The east end is pretty bad, but you'd never have to go there. The University of Strathclyde is in the centre, so there's nothing to worry about. Plus, there's an epic CD shop nearby!
In my band we have quite a large range of musical taste collectively; I like Electro-Industrial and Gothic Rock, the bassist likes Punk and Ska, the other guitarist likes Indie and the drummer likes 80's Hair Metal. We just decided to cover a more neutral song that everyone liked at least a little (a Muse song), then we just learned the song, played it together and went with the kinda hybrid sound that came naturally.
Just decide on a song to cover by a band that you and any potential band mates like, make the song your own, and go with it.
It's not always a great idea to plan genre in advance, just keep an open mind.
Dancing Ferret so I could be label mates with The Cruxshadows and maybe I'd have a chance at punching a member of Angelspit in the face. ...Either that or Nuclear Blast, because they have alot of bands that I like.
I'm going to depart from metal with some Aggrotech: "Bind, Torture And Kill" or "**** You Bitch" by Suicide Commando "Odio En El Alma", "Born To Be Hated" or "Where Angels Don't Sing" by Hocico "We Came To Kill", "Gunman" or "The Third War" by Fuker Vogt Some Wumpscut wouldn't go amiss either.
If you want a mild migrane aswell I suggest anything by Schizoid, in my opinion it's a mix between Breakcore and Industrial Metal but apparently it's "Digital Black Metal"
Ohhhhhh also try "Econobeing", "Gak Bitch" or "My Machine" by the Digital Hardcore band The Shizit.
I intended for the new song on my profile (disrepair) to sound like apoptygma berzerk/depeche mode/assemblage 23 with the melodic solo elements of arch enemy. Does it have potential to be truly epic if recorded with something other than a warlock and audacity?
I doubt that EVERY reference to metal as being "gothic" here has been sarcasm. Thank you to the people who mentioned Bauhaus, Sisters Of Mercy, etc. You saved the thread from a massive paragraph written by me on a brief history of the subculture.
I agree that it was just a bad attempt at english as schools, etc. probably don't cover subcultural affiliation in their language courses over there either.
I'm an emo/goth and i agree with you people shouldnt be so harsh and un-civil
Valid point and I agree, but I'd like to point out that you must be one or the other. Sorry, but there is no combination of emo and Goth.

It means that you should not worry about these stupid fasion stereotypes kids argue over. All of them try to establish themselves as listeners of a certain music. "Im gonna dress like this cause I like metal! Whoode-f*cking doo!" When they do that they are secretly agreeing to be treated a certain way.
Well, you have the wrong idea. I am Cybergoth as I enjoy genres such as Gothic Rock, Post-Punk, Darkwave, Aggrotech and EBM and I also enjoy dressing in the appropriate way. I like being part of a group of like minded people. I certainly don't do it purely to show everyone that I listen to certain kinds of music, and it's certainly not just something that kids argue over. Also, so called "Goths" who go on about how much they hate emo kids are not examples of the aesthetics of the subculture as a whole. The Goth subculture encourages open mindedness and tolerance towards everyone, we don't like being discriminated against so why do it to them? Also, I agree that not all neds/chavs are bad people, but in my experience most of them are. I used to know a few in school who were some of the friendliest people I've met, but tolerance : intolerance ratio really doesn't go in their favour.
I'm not sure which annoys me more, his excessive use of capital letters to emphasise the (rather poorly thought out) profanity or the way he tries to offend anyone who gives an opinion... It certainly is a shame about the tab after you took the time to make the contribution, but that really doesn't call for being a douche towards random people. ... Your logic confuses me.
spray aerosol stuff on it and watch it die slowly and painfully. i did it to a spider once, it was all flinchy and funny. but then i felt kinda bad. you should probably just let it go... actually, on second thought, give it an awesome name, then let it go OR breed it so you have an army of bugs.
I guess I sound vaugely like Buckethead, but only the rhythm guitar parts. My lead sound is just crappy. My bass playing sounds kinda like Evil from Otep (ghostflowers and that kinda stuff) but nowhere near as good.
Bragged everyone that I can play guitar and embarrased myself infront of the class by playing smoke one the water
You're not alone. Most people have probably done that. I could barely play Smoke On The Water tbh, basic 12 bar blues rhythms were my forte...
I also thought everything with screaming was death metal and thought that there was a sub genre of christian metal called white metal in which everyone sounded like static x. No idea where i got that from. But that was unrelated lmao.
go to the party or whatever, get hammered 1st thing you get in the door even if nobody has mentioned opening the alcohol. drink as much as you can at once. then a good few hours later when your mum phones you to see where you are, you become spontaneously sober and able to talk to her without giving it away if you drink it all at once there is no state of semi-drunkness and if they ask, there was obviously no alcohol. oh and make sure none of the other people whom are drunk are seen by your parents or whatever if they pick you up or something. I'm scottish,we have this **** down to a science
lmfao, likewise! =D Also, yeah stuff like that annoys me aswell (along with that "rockstar" song by nickelback) but if you want it to change you don't post a thread about it. Chuck Norris is just a phone call away, use him
Slayer ARE the devils band. Kerry King IS satan. His beard and BC Rich guitar prove it. Some people say that if you look deep enough into his glistening bald head, you are spontaneously ignited by the flames of hell... Well, they don't. That was just the first thing that came into my head. =D
usually when a topic such as slayers level of suckage comes up in conversation,I personally like to scream "**** yeah slayer!" in the offending person's face for being stupid. ... ...... **** YEAH SLAYER!!!
Slayer=Raining Blood,Angel Of Death,Payback,Warzone,South Of Heaven,Disciple Pantera=Domination,Cowboys From Hell,Walk,5 Minutes Alone,Message In Blood,Psycho Holiday,Medicine Man Arch Enemy=Ravenous,Dead Eyes See No Future,Taking Back My Soul, most others Cannibal Corpse= ALL!
