Hello,
I haven't been able to watch the video as i'm in work but my advice around strumming would be to listen carefully to the song (and obviously follow the instructions on the video) and then by a process of trial and error try to replicate the sound. I know my playing improved significantly as soon as i started to play along to my favorite tunes as well as using tab.
Hope this is useful - keep at it
Phil
...so here's the second effort - thanks for any comments

He lived there on the edge of town
Drinking til the world was outta sight
She liked parties in dirty bars
Watching all the grown men fight

Chorus

There were dark clouds in the sky
They don’t know the reason why
You know it looked like rain, but they get through
They always do

Now his money’s all gone, but she don’t care
They turn to face the world returned its stare
He says “We’re going nowhere baby”
She says “I’m going there with you”

Chorus

She always stood there by his side
Through everything he’d ever done
An’ all those times he stumbled down
She’d be there to catch him where he’d fall

Chorus

Now they sit there on the stoop
Watching as the sun begins to fade
With all the years that’ve been and past
He knows he loves her more each day

Final chorus

Those dark clouds came an’ went
They never knew what they meant
Sunshine always follows rain
Its all the same, they get through
They always do
Hello,

I have stuck together some lyrics for a couple of songs - don't have a method of getting the song onto the PC, but I'd be interested in feedback on the lyrics.

These are only my second and third songs ever, so any improvements you can suggest would be much appreciated.

Ta Las

Black Hearted Woman

Night gets hold of this dirty town
It’s about midnight when my baby gets round
She pulls me close, and tells me the truth
I just can’t get my mind off you

Chorus

Black hearted woman
Can’t you see what you’re doing to me
Black hearted woman
Now I’m as blind as I can be, when
You kiss me in the darkness
And swear that you don’t care
Black hearted woman, leave me there

When she holds me she don’t have a clue
Her touch is warm, makes me blue
Know she loves me, its not a lie
I just can’t get you off my mind

Chorus

It gets hot, we start to sweat
We didn’t even make it through to the bed
I can't believe what she's doin to me
So full of blackness, I can't see

Chorus

In the darkness if feels just like her
Right down to the smell of her hair
Her breath dances soft on my face
Goin crazy gettin outta this place

Chorus

She finds your notes when she goes through my phone
Asks the question when I get home
I know her words before she can speak
She’s so sad, 'cos I’m so weak

So now I’m standing here on my own
Gets so lonely waiting on the phone
Angry tears as she walked out the door
I was a fool, now I lost it all

Hi I live in Liverpool, I'm dead keen to get together with like minded people for a jam and hopefully, eventually to forma band.

I'm 33 and I love Blues & Rock although I like anythinig as long as its dynmic and got a good tune. In particular I like Jack White (any of his bands kick ass!), Flaming Lips, Placebo, Robert Johnson, Son House.

I play mainly rhythm guitar very well, but my lead is improving too!

Let me know if you're interested, I have a car so I'm able to travel to A-I-M easily.

It's just everybody who 'buys it for themselves' ends up buying it for the Tom Morello ****. I know the first things you want to learn are RATM songs... and that's all you learn. Dragonforce uses it, no one I know has bought a Whammy pedal for Dragonforce. You're going to buy it, learn the solo to Killing In The Name, and everything 'original' you play is just that solo in different scales or modes.

RATM do rock but there's only one reason to by a whammy pedal - Jack White! I love what he does with it!
I want to start a band in Liverpool but haven't got a clue where to start.

I play rhythm guitar and some lead, mainly blues and indie rock. My main influences are Jack White, Flaming Lips, Son House, Elmore James, and i love the Kings of Leon.

I'm keen to keep the band as minimal as possible - probably just one guitar (me), drummer, and maybe bassist.

Anyone interested?
I totally agree, if its not published and you make sh*t loads of money, then at the very least you should use it to pull!!!
I really really liked this - personally i don't care it didn't rhyme it nearly made me cry!!!

I think a couple of people mentioned the Transformers ref, i didn't think it added anything to the song and as someone else already pointed out it dated it.

Other than that it is a beautifully written piece and i'm on my way to check out other stuff you've done!
I agree with TheNewCancer, really good use of the questions really felt like you were thrashing it out but getting nowhere - we all been there so everyone can relate. In all really good
Thanks to both of you, i'm really chuffed with the response!!! I have taken on board what you said (particularly the specifics you picked out Nickolasrox).

It might just be the way i sing with my English accent but i feel "can't" fits better than "cannot" - i have tried it both ways, but hey.

I really had issues with the end of the second verse too, dead pleased with the "They were friends while i knew them" line but the final line is just too cheesy - i'll work on it, but thanks for the vote of confidence about my imagination lol!!!

I've had a play with the the final verse - what do you reckon???

I met a girl just like an angel
Kissed me once and i had to stay
She showed me the world around me
She showed me, another way

Anyway thanks again, let me know what you think. In the meantime i'll try and flesh the "story" out a bit.

Phil
That is a quality piece of writing, really enjoyed (if that's the right word) it. Love the language you used - moving!
I'm not very good at composing the music but i have set these lyrics around a dead basic two chord sequence (D and G) and it sounds like a Woody Guthrie style american folk song...hope that helps a bit, this is my first attempt so go easy:

(Chorus)
I have seen my share of leaving
Left my family far behind
To travel round this world alone
An' search for something i can't find

VI
This world it seems so massive
Really takes my breathe away
But then the world it gets so tiny
So small that i can't breathe

(Chorus)

VII
I've said hello to many people
As i travel 'cross this land
They were friends while i knew them
But i said bye too many times too

(Chorus)

VIII
I met a girl just like an angel
Kissed me once and i had to stay
She showed me the world around me
Now I don't have to search no more

(Final Chorus)
I had seen my share of leaving
Left my family at the door
I met a girl just like an angel
Now i don't have to search no more
so, do you fancy getting together for a jam, if so where - i'm in Gartson but can get where ever, within reason?
32 - but a young 32!!!

At the moment i'm just trying to find people to have a jam with.

How old are you?
Come on guys (and girls) there must be at least a couple of people in the 'pool that are into bluesey rock and not in a band - but want to be!!!
Hi,

I want to start a band in Liverpool (England) so i'm looking for other musicians.

I've never done anything like this before; I sing and play guitar (mainly rhythm - with a bit of lead), but if you're in Liverpool and like indie rock from the 90s, the White Stripes, Raconteurs, Dylan, Led Zep, The Floyd - pretty much any guitar based rock - then get in touch.

Ta Las
I suppose originally it was Bob Dylan who influenced me to pick up a guitar, but it was Jack White who inspired me to learn to play properly!

When i heard De Stijl for the first time and his version of Son House's classic Death Letter not only did i concentrate on doing more than banging out chords but i also taught myself slide guitar...Jack White anll the way!!! III
Cheers Dude, that's dead useful
I'm posting this at the risk of being slated for posting a question that's been asked before...but here goes:

I have just bought a zoom G2.1u pedal, i haven't used pedals before really (i have got a couple of others - a Boss Compression Sustain and Russian Big Muff).

I just need a bit of help with setting up my own patches - i'm assuming thath this is used inorder to programme a series of effects into the pedal to be alternated between during a song - but knowing me i got this wrong too.

Also any tips or advice anyone can offer around using thios pedal would be very much appreciated

Ta las
Cheers guys - i was a bit doubtful myself so i've had a crack with both. The whammy's the one for me!
This is probably a stupid query, but here goes....

I was in my local guitar store yesterday and asked about the digitech whammy pedal as i play a lot of White Stripes and i'm looking for a way to get those really high screaming guitar solos. The guy in the shop said that while it's not the same i could achieve a similar result with a Cry Baby Wah Wah. Is this true?

Obviously this would be far cheaper than the Digitech pedal and as always finances are TIGHT!
Don't really know alot about this type of guitar but I just got an Epiphone Special II - it is relatively cheap (£150 approx) and excellent to play.
This is my first time posting on a forum of any kind. I have been playing Acoustic for about 14 years and have just got an electric guitar. I am finally beginning to get to grips with tab rather than just thrashing away at chords.

Hopefully UG will help me improve!
