Apparently posted this in the wrong place last time...

I know the problem is basic, but I'm tearing my hair out having read  multiple troubleshooting guides, so I thought I'd try this before I pay silly money for a service.

I put some Ernie Baller Slinky  Cobalt's on my guitar (2005 Epiphone Les Paul Standard) a few months ago, and could not get the g string to ring out. I tried adjusting the bridge, the saddle, cleaning out the nut, restringing the string... nothing. Eventually I tried a different string which for some reason worked perfectly the first time, assumed it was a dud string, and left it.

Months later, it's time for a string change, so I've grabbed some Slinky Paradigms, and am faced with the exact same problem as before. I have tried:

All  of the above, with maybe a very slight exception for the latter, have no effect. The string is equally muted on all frets, with no buzz, and seems to have very restricted vibration around the nut. It is extremely tight to bend. It remains muted even when very loosely tuned. The same happens when the string is pulled into the nut for the B string, which I did to see if it could ring out in other nut slots.

    Any ideas at all?

    • Pulling the string to one side behind the nut and picking

Tabbed out this entire song except the one chord. At the end of the chorus, she sings "I want to play a fair game" twice, and the first time under "play" at 1:01 there's a chord I can't get for the life of me. The second time around it's a simple C, and it's driving me a bit nuts. Thanks for any help!
Where's the cheapest place to get reasonable looking replica kits? Think the last one I knew of was Soccer Scorpion and that seems to have vanished off the face of the earth.
Awesome, cheers for the quick response. Much obliged.

I'm not a finger-picker, and I want to play the rest of the song but without being able to start it I'm being driven mad. Any help appreciated.

Quick question - do you guys know of any texts that argue to what extent religious texts are authoritative? Generic searches on the internet aren't turning up the results that I need.

Homophobia? An amazing difference across human cultures, and highly relevant today what with the recent "gay propaganda" laws that are so controversial in Russia and the Draconian laws enacted in Uganda and Nigeria.... While at the very same time in the West we are rapidly moving to accepting gay marriage and homophobic behavior is almost completely condemned...

The same through history, with a variety of nations and cultures being either accepting (Japan, Greece, various Amerind tribes) or condemning (General among "Abrahamic" religions).

You can even work in the whole "born gay" or "llfestyle choice" arguments.

That could certainly work, I'll give it a think. I'm not sure if we're marked more harshly for essays on subjects we've already covered if it's an independent choice, but if we're not then I think there could be a lot of value in homophobia with regards to the contemporary.

]Does it have to be something relevant to contemporary society?

Absolutely not, no. It could be literally anything I want to write about. My instinct was to lean towards something more modern to allow me to create a more engaging essay from a social standpoint, but that was more for convenience rather than necessity.

EDIT: On reflection, it wasn't a smart idea considering the amount of texts available for older, more established texts and ideas I could defend/attack. So yeah, anything goes. :P
    Hi guys,

One of my university modules requires me to come up with a 3000 word essay on a philosophical topic of my choosing. I'm really struggling to nail anything down, however - I always have difficulty selecting an answer to such an open ended question. Is there anything relevant to society at the minute that you guys would think could make a really interesting philosophy essay? Something to do with the madness in Ukraine, for example? Any ideas to bounce off the walls of my brain would be appreciated.
Is there a particular name for the technique of taking evidence used to prove a point in one topic and employing that evidence yourself to prove a different, unrelated point in another? I'm not talking about plagiarism I think I heard Hitchens use the phrase "______ evidence" in his debate with Tony Blair, but I'm buggered if I can find it now.
Does anyone know how to remove a program that refuses to uninstall itself, and I am unable to access in a folder? Java is refusing to install itself on my system, and I believe this is because I can't get rid of an old version called Java 7 Update 9. Uninstalling it through the Programs bit on the Control Panel does nothing - it runs through the uninstallation process and then just stays there. I can't manually delete the program because I can't see the damn folder. It's in C/Windows/Installer/*programname*.msi, and when I enter the Windows folder in the C partition I can't see this folder. Anyone got an idea for a fix?
Anyone have any experience with FM14 Handheld? I got an iPod Touch for Christmas and need something for a train up to Edinburgh (and eventually back) in a few days time.

Just unwrapped FIFA 14 and trying to decide on a club to do career with.

Obviously I will eventually do both an Oxford and Arsenal one, but who should I start with?
I reckon someone like Leverkeusen/Hannover/Schalke could be fun, but anyone have any recommendations?

Are you more into a from-the-ground-up minnow-to-titan career, or do you just want to grab a good club and bring in players and a style you like from the get-go?

    Former: AJ Auxerre, Deportivo, Wolves.
Latter: Norwich, Lille, Hannover, Verona, Bilbao.
Just dug out my old Squier Strat from my attic as a back-up guitar while I'm not at uni, and I'm a little worried at how dehydrated the fretboard is. I've gotten all of the dirt off the neck, and there's streaks of what I think the actual color should be across a fretboard that is much paler than I remember it being.

I can't get to a guitar shop for a good couple of days, and in any case I'm very wary of picking up a fretboard product that just makes it shiny on the top. The only truly 'natural' oil I can get hold of that might work is some coconut oil, but there seems to be some disagreement whether or not it would be beneficial. Any help?
For those who mess around the with Steam Trading Cards, is it worth selling the Christmas Sale ones now and them re-buying them at the end of the sale?
Blaaargh. I'll stick to SWTOR for now then, find it very hard to rationalise subscriptions. Shame, I'd love to create my own Vivi and then go and blow stuff up with him.
Do you have to subscribe to play FFXIV, or can you just purchase the disk and play it freemium?
Started my first reset two days ago and am already on more cookies than I was after playing for a good few weeks the first time round. The Grandmapocalypse is making me absolute bank with these new wrinklers, too.
Penises are ugly. I don't understand how I could send a picture that would be remotely attractive, so I wouldn't feel comfortable doing it.

Cheap, comfy, decent sound, and an audio jack to share your music built-in. Not bad for £30.

Does this game save on its own? Like can I x out and come back to it later?

Click the menu tab and manually save if you're paranoid, but it should autosave every few minutes.

Click cookie to get cookies. Stuff on the right you can buy with cookies to get more cookies. More stuff you have making cookies, more cookies you make per second, which lets you get more stuff that makes cookies.

    Cookies.

Searched, found nothing. Been leaving this running in the background for the last few days, and it's bizarrely addictive. Plus, I figured the potential to make literally quadrillions of cookies per second would be a quality met with general nods of approval even from the depths of The Pit.

    Let's bake.

How did you guys decide what course(s) and universities to apply to?

You work out what you're good at, and then look at the university rankings for subjects that involve a lot of what you're good at. That's the obvious way in my head, anyway. If you haven't already started working towards a specific course, like Medicine/Architecture or whatever.
NutJob, FirstRow, and Eplsite are all failing me. Anyone got a stream for the Arsenal game?
    Nope.

For £50 you wont get much quality, check some used monitors on ebay. Ideally youd want some KRK Rokit 5's which are amazing sounding and the quality is amazing.

The Rokits look tasty, but are admittedly out of my price range. I'll keep an eye.

Doesn't the HT-5 have an Mp3/Aux in? You could just plug your laptop right into that if it does. Probably won't sound the greatest, but neither will cheap speakers.

I can't play music through an amp I'm playing through at the same time, can I? Even if it's possible won't it sound godawful, especially through a single speaker?

£50 won't buy much, but you may get a set of used M-Audio AV40s. They're perfectly acceptable for what you're looking for.

Keeping an eye out for some on Ebay, reviews seem good and they'd certainly do the job.

My flatmate has an amazing set of speakers, Trust 19766 Titons. They're about 50 quid on amazon, excellent quality and can get very loud if you want them to!
Did you mis-type the name? Google nor Amazon can find any speaker with that name.

Got craigslist/electronics. Put 50 in the max price and stereo in the search.

Not entirely sure how much I trust Craigslist. Sooner go through a site like Gumtree.
    Hi guys,

I've recently moved into my uni house for the next two years, and I'm looking for some speakers that I can connect to my laptop (wired or wireless, not bothered) and play along to with the amp in. I'm currently using headphones and playing unplugged, and my amp is staring angrily at me with an accusing look on its face.

I'm not overly familiar with the terminology of speakers or hi-fi systems with regards to how much bass/wattage etc is enough to support a Blackstar HT-5C, so I was hoping some of you could help me. I'd be able to play reasonably loud (think 2/2.5 on the volume knob) as I've got tolerant house-mates, but I won't need a 16-inch subwoofer or anything. Maximum price would probably be about £50.

Thanks for any help you can give.
Question for you fine gentlemen: cheapest places to get GTA V? I think £33 is the lowest I've found, was wondering if there's anywhere I can get it for cheaper?

    For which match?

Arsenal looking a bit weak today. :/

Should've said I did mean the Arsenal game. Every stream I try on firstrow is utterly appalling, too.
Anyone got a steady stream I can use? Using Nutjob.eu atm and it's lagging in and out too much to make it watchable.
It's a little disconcerting that I can't work out if she looks 19 or 12.
