In this lesson we'll look at how to use numbers and a grid to expand your musical vocabulary and invent new musical ideas you perhaps wouldn't normally come up with!

Essentially we'll look at breaking the bar down into subdivisions (8th and 16th notes) and drawing grids that represent these 8th/16th notes (you can download and print these gridsĀ here).

The next step is to fill out the grid randomly with crosses, these crosses will translate into interesting rhythmic phrases that you can then apply notes to on your bass!

    I would need to massively improve my sight reading from what it is to get this nailed, but I do like this idea, however never put it into practise. This would be great for lick building, now I have some homework.
