1. Play the Acoustic & Electric

2. Learn Music Theory!

3. Know your scales, arpeggios and chord shapes

4. Practice on a "clean" and "distorted" setting

5. Find any note anywhere on the fretboard

6. Always play in tune

7. Know who inspired those who inspire YOU

8. Take criticism well

9. Record yourself

10. Improvise often

    Good tips but yah I think a metronome should be on there. Timing is everything. Scales and all that is great. But with out timing your nothing. You don't have to be the best,some of the best songs are simple, but they are arranged well and that is timing and rhythm.

    Well timing isn't everything. I prefer to stretch time and mess around the progressions. I am human! lol But honestly, great tip. It is something I overlooked and something I don't really use anymore. Thanks!

    I think you missed a very important tip. Play with a metronome.

    Thanks for pointing that out. As a classical guitarist and a lover of Romantic-era music, the metronome (for the most part) is deemed almost unnecessary. The freedom of timing and expression is all over the place so I found myself not using a metronome in my later studies. Thanks for your tip!
