Welcome to week four! If you’ve got this far then congratulations – you’re already a brilliant shred guitarist as far as tapping is concerned.

If you haven't already, go back and read weeks 1 (plus week 1 part 2), 2 and 3 for the foundations of this lesson.

This is where we deal with the final challenge – using all four right hand fingers at once. It’s the most difficult challenge of the whole four weeks, but that doesn’t mean that it’s impossible to learn fast – if you really focus and spend enough time each day on it, there’s no reason that you can’t learn to tap with all four fingers by the end of this week.

At the end of the program you’ll be able to use all four fingers on both hands at once to play amazing eight-finger tapping licks. Use that thought as motivation and hit this challenge with everything you’ve got!

First, you’ll need to get used to using the little finger on its own. Go back to the one-finger tapping licks in week one and play them all with your little finger. Do this until you can play them just as easily with your little finger as you can with your other fingers – then you’ll be ready for the licks below.

This lick is a full 8-finger tapping pattern on one string – it’s a full scale run up and down an octave on one string. It’s in A-minor.

B|-h10h12h13h15t17t18t20t22p20p18p17p15p13p12p10-|

The next one is also an eight-finger lick, but it’s in D minor. It uses four strings this time, and you may actually find it easier than the previous one. Use your little finger on the first (e) string, your ring finger on the second (b) string, your middle finger on the third (g) string and your index finger on the fourth (d) string.

G|---------------------t14p12p10----------------|
D|-------------------------------t14p12p10h12~~~|

See how easy it is do create fast scale runs when your tapping technique is good? By now you should be well equipped to seek out some crazy tapping licks of your own, and learn to play them at high speed. See if you can create something really unique, and have fun with it!

That’s the end of this course – I hope you’ve enjoyed it! Remember to keep your eye on www.tomguitar.co.uk for more great lessons, reviews and articles.
