How To Understand Guitar Tabs. Part 2

0
If you haven't been on my other lesson How To Understand Guitar Tabs and or you don't understand anything about guitar tabs go on it before this one. Dictionary Of Guitar Notation 2 Tapping: Tapping is simply where you use your iddle finger to tap a note. Most of the time after you tap a note you pull-off to another note and then pull off again to another like the examples below. On most guitar tabs tapping is indicated by a T above the tab or on the tab(next to the note your supposed to tap) Another thing about tapping is most of the time the all have the same amount of notes inbetween eachother. Between the first note and the second note there are normally 3 notes and between the second note and the third note there are normally 2 notes. Also tapping can be on any string.

Alternate picking: Alternate picking is when picking alternate between up and down picks so you can play at a high tempo withouth straining your hand. When alternate picking you should try and move your hand as less as possible and only move your wrist slightly. This technique takes time to perfect so t off slow and build up speed. On a guitar tab alternate picking is indicated by little arrows underneath the tab that tell if it is a up or down pick.

Note trills: A note trill is simpily where you alternte between 2 notes using hammer-ons and pull-offs. Note trills can be played on any string. ON a guita tab a note trill is indicated by tr inbetween the 2 notes.

Pinched harmonics: Pinched harmonics or 'Squelies' are pretty to do and it takes quite a while to master. One way to do a pinched harmonic is you bring your phumb behind the back and lighlty touch the string after its been played. A pinched harmonic is indicted by P.H above the the tab and or a star* next to the note your supposed to do a pinched harmonic on.

Palm-muting: Palm-muting is probaly one of the easiest technique to learn(on this lesson). To palm-mute you do exactly what it says in the name, mute a note using your palm. What you do is after you play the note you put your palm on the string and the note should make a clunking sound and the note should stop. In guitar tabs palm muting is indicated by a P.M above the guitar tab or dots. Underneath the notes you palm mute.

Now that you have learnt all these techniques(or at least knowhow to do them) you probaly will want to learn learn a song that uses them so I put the tab on for a song that uses at least 1 of those techniques in it. Tapping: Metallica-one

on palm muting your actually suposed to put your palm on the string and then play it to give it a chunking sound. the one i put is a different technique that sounds like palm muting, you play a note and put your palm on the string to stop the note ringing out.

You wrote PM instead of PH where you mentioned pinch harmonics. The palm muting part is also misleading, you don't actually mute the notes, and you have your palm on the strings before you pluck them. Just saying so that you don't confuse beginners.

could someone please help , im confused when things like 2h3h4 come up or 2p3p4? in 2h3h4 do you pick 3 and then hammer on 3 and then 4, and likewize in 2p3p4??

on 2h3h4 you pick the second fret then hammer another finger down to the 3 rd fret and then hammer on another finger to the 3rd fret. on 4p3p2 you have a finger on each fret then pick it a pull off the forth fret snapping the string a little so it rings out more then do the same to the next note.
