Metalcore Lesson 1

Here is a lesson on metalcore - for drop D and D# kinda stuff. It's just basic easy stuff really so I won't make it too difficult.

Metalcore Lesson 1

Here is a first lesson so go easy on me. It's mostly metalcore. For drop D and D# kinda stuff. I know some of you guys are into that kind of playing. It's just basic easy stuff really so I won't make it too difficult. It's just stuff that I practice most of the time or even try to make them into cool riffs for songs. So I'll make a practice riff then do kind of a short song version of the tabs. Here it goes.

Riff 1: Kind of an old Avenged Sevenfold style thing

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
-----------------------10-----------------------8-------------------------7--
------5---7---8---7h8--10------5---7---8---7h8--8-------5---7---8---7h8---7--
-0-0----0---0---0------10--0-0---0---0---0------8---0-0---0---0---0-------7--
Repeat that riff as many times as you want and maybe add some more stuff.

Riff 2: Random chords that might help out some

-0----5---7---10------------------------------------------------------------
-6----5---7---10------------------------------------------------------------
-9----5---7---10------------------------------------------------------------
-0----3---5---8----7----10--------------------------------------------------
-0----3---5---8----5----8---------------------------------------------------
-0----3---5---8----5----8---------------------------------------------------

Riff 3: Blessthefall kind of stuff

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
-----------------8h7-7----------------------------------------------------
-1b-0-0-1b--0-0-----------------------------------------------------------

Riff 3.2: Lead Blessthefall style metalcore

---------------------------------------------------------------------
---------------------------------------------------------------------
---------------------------------------------------------------------
-----17-15-----------------------------------------------------------
-12--------10~----------12h15--8h10--15h17---------------------------
----------------0-0-0------------------------------------------------

Riff 3.3: Rhythm Blessthefall style

---------------------------------------------------------------------
---------------------------------------------------------------------
---------------------------------------------------------------------
-8---7---0---10------------------------------------------------------
-8---7---0---10------------------------------------------------------
-8---7---0---10--0-0-0-0-0-0-----------------------------------------
So I hope this doesn't mess anyone up. Blessthefall was the only good band that I could think of to model the metalcore stuff from since they are good anyway. At least I think so. The Sevenfold style riff is something I wrote like 3 years ago. If anyone can name the longer chords then go ahead. Any mistakes let me know. I didn't name the strings since this can be used for any drop tunings really. Hope this helps some. We need more metalcore lessons of this type.

5 metalcorey riffs. You, kid, really need to look up the term "lesson" in the dictionary. This, whatever it is, it's not a lesson.

This really lacks the essence of a 'lesson', but hey, for a first timer it could be worse.

I like the lead riff the best. Practicing those jumps and landing on the right fret is a good challenge especially as you build speed. Thanks for sharing.

I can't say I've seen many of those "random chords" before in the songs I play, but that could just be me?

The first chord is a Dmadd9, D-F-A-D-E. The ones after that are just maj7 chords, and the last two are power chords with add9. The lesson could have more stuff in it, like what sort of techniques are commonly used in metalcore music, a larger collection of bands with good riffs and much more. But hey, this was your first one, and the possible next one will be better. Just remember to make it more than a riff collection.

Some thanks for the kind words. And I meant drop c# not d#. Sorry about that. Riff 2 was just something that I sometimes play when I'm bored. Its just mostly down strums for rhythm playing since that's what I am. Sorry this couldn't be more professional. If this lesson isn;t for you then move on. You don't have to be rude saying "This is just shit" and other rude comments. Its just random riffs I came up with to help out. I'm no pro nor do I try to be. I'm surprised this even got submitted in. This is just mostly older Sevenfold, Blessthefall, and Attack Attack style stuff. And I honestly didn't know those chords had a name. I just thought they always sounded good especially for metalcore. Some of you try not to asses next time. Sorry again though if I mess anyone up. Don't have to be a dick about it though.

Oh and riff 3 was in the style of one of Blessthefall's newer songs, can't think of it though, its from Hollow Bodies so just listen to the album to hear something similar.

It's not really a lesson if you don't explain why these are the type of riffs used in metalcore

I don't really explain things good so get over it. I'm just into Blessthefall's style of music mostly. And sorry I don't know chord names either. Most of you didn't have to be a dick about it though
