What Should Guitar Players Play?
3

On this lesson, we are going to do an exercise in real time. The focus of this lesson is listening.

The things I look for when listening are:

1. The beat

2. The appropriate subdivision

3. The mood (sad, happy, mysterious, etc.)

To start improvising you need a starting note and then you need to know your intervals. Start with the smaller intervals: half step and whole step. Then, look for a theme.

Once you have your theme you will notice some comfortable shapes. Combine these new shapes with your usual licks, this way you will have some mental breaks.
