On this lesson, we are going to do an exercise in real time. The focus of this lesson is listening.
The things I look for when listening are:
1. The beat
2. The appropriate subdivision
3. The mood (sad, happy, mysterious, etc.)
To start improvising you need a starting note and then you need to know your intervals. Start with the smaller intervals: half step and whole step. Then, look for a theme.
Once you have your theme you will notice some comfortable shapes. Combine these new shapes with your usual licks, this way you will have some mental breaks.
