David Bowie to Get His Own Radio Channel on Sirius XM
David Bowie is to get his own radio channel on Sirius XM, NME reports. The US satellite radio service will broadcast a limited-run, all Bowie channel from October 30 to November 12. It will feature the five new tracks from the new expanded edition of the singer's most recent album "The Next Day," which is released on November 5. It will also feature rare performances, demos and Bowie covers by Beck, Nirvana, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Rolling Stone reports. Artists including Pearl Jam, Bruce Springsteen, the Grateful Dead and Pink Floyd have all had their own channels on the service previously. Earlier this week, BBC Radio 6 Music broadcast a rare David Bowie promotional radio programme. The 15-minute show was recorded by Bowie to promote the release of his 1973 covers album "Pin Ups" but never made it on air. The quarter of an hour broadcast includes tracks from the album, as well as clips of Bowie talking about the London music scene. Listen to it here. "I discovered it during some research several years ago," said Nigel Reeve, the man in charge of Bowie's back catalogue who discovered the tape. "It was in an old tape vault on 1/4" tape with simply the words 'Radio Show' written on it. This is such a rare find. No-one knew of its existence, apart from David and Ken [Scott, the album and radio show's producer]. To play it for the first time was quite simply a jaw-dropping moment."
