why is Amy Winehouse getting a nomination when she died in July 2011? I would understand if this was some life-time achievement award, but is she even legible? What did she do last year?
I agree. She hadn't even released any music leading up to her death. This is a waste of a nomination that someone else could have.
also agree....and i think its safe to say that shes gonna win it. "in memory of" and all that!
Which is a little insulting to the female artists who deserve it having contributed musically... what next, "Best male artist: John Lennon"?!
If Muse don't win Best Live Act among those nominees there's something very wrong going on.
Not a massive fan of Muse, but I've got to agree. They're phenomenally good live.
Lets just hope Muse, Jack White and The Rolling Stones win an award, they're the only artists I like there
      Dj vu..
i hope the stones get best live act though.
I don't. They've gotten worse with each year.
They really did get bad during their a bigger bang tour, especially near the end, but their shows last year were fantastic - Their longest shows in 15 years, interesting set lists, steady tempos, less back-up musicians, and way better guitar playing....
"British British Male: Calvin Harris Plan B Richard Hawley Ben Howard Olly Murs" If Rich Hawley doesn't walk that category..
I was about to write exactly the same thing, Richard Hawley is a far more deserving act than any of those.
Bug off, we've got our own problems here
Does anyone know if you can remove your own comment? Since they removed the spam comment, my comment seems pointless now
Steven Wilson for everything... These awards are annoying, though I take it back when a band like Iron Maiden win. I'm only hoping Muse win their respective categories, didn't like the latest album but they're still a good band
Wouldn't really be fair putting Steven Wilson in though, he'd just win everything every year
Awful nominations. No Fiona Apple for best international female but TAYLOR SWIFT? And who is Mumford and Sons' agent? They are astonishingly mediocre. And no Tame Impala for best international band but one-hit-wonders Fun. Ridiculous.
AltJ put out a solid first album, I hope they beat out Muse this year. Of course Muse in their prime would best Alt J, but Muse's disappointing new album doesn't have shit on Alt J's release this year.
Alt-J deserve it as well. That album is one of the most beautiful and tight albums released in a while. So much mixed emotion and such a strange sound. Though Muse's album is pretty good IMO, but it's definitely an album which will get mixed reviews by different people
This would've been alot more legit if spongebob was nominated anywhere on the list.
In my my mind, Iron Maiden's constant omission is just to give others a chance
Why "Babel" is up for Best Album? It's boring record. "Sigh no more" was great but it doesn't mean that next record is great too. I hope Ben Howard will win Best Male. I like his record so much, especially song called "Black Flies". He deserves it.
This is a great list tbh, it's not your typical Brit Award nominees. I didn't expect to see Alt-J, The XX, Jessie Ware, Alabama Shakes, Frank Ocean, Bat For Lashes etc in there. Obviously metal isn't going to be included, so why even complain in the comments? I'm pretty sure metal fans complain when bands 'sell out' anyway...
If one direction wins I'm seriously gonna smack every preteen girl on the face of the earth.
Sorry, Rita Ora, but being bought up by Jay Z does not constitute being a breakthrough act, nevermind the best one of the year. Maybe a Best Manufactured Act...
tbh the list of nominations appears to be a lot better than the previous couple years, at least there are some alternative artists this time, hopefully Muse, The rolling stones and alt-J win something
If the Stones don't win best live act there is something seriously wrong with the world...
Group: Alt-J Album: Alt J Female: Bat For Lashes Male: Calvin Harris Breakthrough: Alt J Live: Muse Int. Group: The Killers Int. Male: Gotye Int. Female: Lana Del Rey My personal picks, some good artists up there
Crap full of hipsterish and "popular" bands. PD: Yeah it sounds akward to have popular and hipster in the same sentence
Nice to see a few less pleb names in there. we all know the cancerous pop monopoly money makers will storm it though
hmm.. it wasnt before I read this list, that I realised, that british music, which has always been my favourite.. really, really, really, REALLY SUCKS nowadays..
These nominations aren't exactly a fair representation of it, but yeah its definitely worse nowadays. For reasons I won't get into here, I blame the stone roses and the culture of bands they inspired for the decline. And Simon Cowell.
It's worse than 10-20 years ago but UK has few great artists right now. In UK we can see new, nice artist(s)or bands every year. There are only nominees.
MUMFORD AND SONS!!!!! The great band that they are finally geeting recongnized for their hard work. REPRESENT UK!!!!!
Yeah, they are a good band, but after winning a Triple J Hottest 100, I wouldn't say that they're finally getting recognized
Ashamed of these nominations. Except The Rolling Stones. If they don't win, I shall go and kill every chino wanker who lives in my town.
