The bassist for rock band 3 Doors Down has been charged with vehicular homicide by intoxication after he was involved in a crash that killed another driver, Nashville police said on Saturday (via Reuters)

Todd Harrell was driving his Cadillac CTS west on Interstate 40 at high speed late on Friday when he clipped a pickup truck. The truck went out of control, traveled down an embankment and overturned, police said.

Harrell was charged early on Saturday. Police identified the man killed in the crash as Paul Howard Shoulders Jr..

The band's website said in a statement that the members were "deeply saddened" by Shoulders' death. "Our hearts and prayers go out to his family and friends at this difficult time," they said.

Police said Shoulders was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the truck.

Harrell showed signs of impairment while performing field sobriety tasks and appeared under the influence of an intoxicant, police said.

"He acknowledged consuming hard cider and taking prescription Lortab and Xanax," the police statement said.

An attorney for bassist could not be reached for comment.

Todd Harrell was taken to Nashville's Metro Jail, which is run by the Davidson County Sheriff's Office. He is also accused of bringing controlled substances into the jail. A search at the booking room by Davidson County Sheriff's deputies uncovered a plastic bag hidden in his sock with eight Xanax pills, 24 Oxycodone pills and four Oxymorphone pills, police said. 3 Doors Down member remained in jail in lieu of $100,000 bond, according to jail records.

No sympathy for drunk-drivers whatsoever. ...or fans of 3 Doors Down
Indeed, no respect for drunk drivers. But it's also kind of dumb to not wear a seatbelt. To protect you from drunk drivers... and trees...
What the f ever happened to beer and weed? All this painkiller script bullshit.
Guy's a tool for driving drunk, but if the truck driver had been wearing his seatbelt, maybe things would be different.
Why does every celeb/musician on xanax? People are so crippled without prescription drugs.
"Ever since he cracked me over the head with that guitar, I've been taking all sorts of prescription meds... and I actually have prescriptions for them!"
I love 3 doors down nothing will change that. but who the hell drinks and drives(i could answer that easily). just call a taxi.
    big muff pedal
Sounds like a ****ing moron, then again 3 Doors Down's music hinted as much.
This is a horrible story. And to show such disrespect at a time like this shows how ignorant you truly are. Was he at fault? Most certainly. But how about grow up and make adult statements.
Calling someone a ****ing moron because of proven stupidity is an adult statement.
Three Doors Down sucks, and now I have another legitimate reason to hate them aside from their crappy music. Condolences to the victim's family.
Oh please people, stop acting like you've never drank and drove before when you were younger and didn't know any better... except this dude's like 40 and a pill-head apparently, I've got no excuses for him except he's in a rock band and being a junkie and a drunk pretty much comes with the territory. So, they'll dump him in a rehab place somewhere and we'll never hear from him again... the typical downfall of many musicians, past, present, and future.
Not all people are idiots who put other's lives at risk. Thanks for playing though.
Plenty of people drink and drive. It's about knowing your limits on how much you can drink before driving. He clearly did not, and is an idiot. But for some of the people on here saying everyone who drinks and drives is some kind of horrible person, give me a break, you are basically talking about more than half the population. Not everyone who drinks and then drives does so like a maniac. Oh here come all the dislikes and riteous nerds with their "Drinking and driving is for pieces of crap, I know someone who blah blah blah" bullshit. Oh I love people who don't consider all sides of an issue.
No, but I don't believe in judging somebody as a human being before knowing the whole story first rather than jumping to conclusions that he's just a douche drunk that stupidly got into a car intoxicated and killed somebody because you don't have to be an idiot for something like that to happen. I'm not saying he's innocent because he's not, I'm just looking at it from the opposite perspective is all.
    Way Cool JR.
I never understood why people this damn rich/famous can't have someone else drive/chauffeur them around when they plan on drinking and going out. Just makes no damn sense at all to me.
