Jimmy "The Rev" Sullivan, drummer for the band "Avenged Sevenfold", was found dead in his home in Huntington Beach, California, on December 28th. He was 28 years old.

Sullivan appears to have died of natural causes, Huntington Beach police Lt. John Domingo told The Orange County Register. Police were notified by firefighters who had responded to Sullivan's home about 1 p.m., according to the report.

The Orange County coroner's office is investigating his death.

The band formed in Huntington Beach in 1999, and was currently working on their fifth album. In addition to playing drums for A7X, The Rev was a prolific songwriter, having contributed the track "A Little Piece of Heaven" to the band's fourth studio CD, 2007's "Avenged Sevenfold".

The rest of the band submitted this statement on their website:

"It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we tell you of the passing today of Jimmy The Rev Sullivan. Jimmy was not only one of the world's best drummers, but more importantly he was our best friend and brother. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Jimmy's family and we hope that you will respect their privacy during this difficult time.

Jimmy you are forever in our hearts. We love you.

M Shadows, Synyster Gates, Zacky Vengeance and Johnny Christ"

RIP James Owen Sullivan.

    kill it
rip to a great drummer. it seems tragic that so many famous stars from the los angeles area are dying of 'natural causes' at such a young age.
The rev was immensly talented though.. Not just drums. Great vocalist.. Great song writer. Although I am an extreme A7X fan.. I hope they continue to write songs in his memory.
U will now be jamming with Cliff, Jimmy, John, Dimebag, Freddie man that would be one helluva show though RIP Jimmy
If you don't like Avenged Sevenfold that's fine, but don't come in here and act like anyone cares that you don't like them. Avenged Sevenfold is one of the few bands that have a completely unique sound. Everyone in the band is very talented and I don't ever see them whoring themselves out on commercials and whatnot so I respect them a lot. RIP Jimmy, you will be missed.

*facepalm* Anyway, a death is never good news. Not matter how much you may like/hate a7x, he deserves respect.
Why the hell is everyone bagging out avenged sevenfold? A7X are irrelevant. M. Shadows is irrelevant. Synyster Gates is irrelevant. Zacky Vengeance is irrelevant. Johny Christ is irrelevant. Stop bagging them out and focus on what this article is actually about. Telling us of the death of an incredible musician. If you have not clicked on this page to pay homage to him, rather to abuse him or his band - get the hell out of here and let the people that actually enjoy what he has done to pay some tribute to the man. RIP Rev

they're replaceable in any normal situation, but the rev's presence really shaped the band in a "priceless" kind of way. plus, these guys have been best friends since gradeschool...it just seems a lot more personal than the usual band death.

Hahahaha, never thought of that, but you have a completely valid point.
Astyan wrote: Oh and dying young of natural causes is perfectly possible. A friend of my brother died at 17 from ruptured cerebral aneurysm. It is extremely rare but it exists.
its definitely a possibility, it just doesnt happen as much as cocaine overdoses. this ruined my christmas break. RIP rev. in my book you were one of the greatest drummers of your time
Lets hope he doesn't try if he gets cremated or that will be two down. Respect, miss you brother
The bassist from Evile died from cereberal hemmoraging at age 30 so I wouldn't say it's drug induced yet but most likely will be.
Such a sad passing... He was a really good drummer. Although, I can't say that I believe that he died of natural causes...

yes it was a little late. a few days late
I'm not a fan of this band or their music by any means at all, but this is truly sadening. May he rest in peace, and to all A7X fans, I truly hope that they find a great replacement.
This is such a tragic thing to happen. But these guys are all great musicians and I know they will use this as inpiration to write some really deep shit for theyre new album, I think its what Reverand would want them to do.
A7X - you either love 'em or you hate 'em, personally i was the latter, but there was no doubt that - despite my disliking of the band - there was talent there. even to the haters its still a sad occaision. RIP Rev.
[quote]travislausch wrote: I was saying they should call it quits because they lost their only talented member. He was far too talented for the rather mediocre talent pool making up that band. Kind of a shame, considering he's not that much older than I am. quote] Their ONLY talented member? I can understand if people over look Johnny Christ and MAYBE Zacky V, but Shadows and Gates!? Shadows has a voice that (admittedly may take a little getting used to) is unique to the music industry and is amazing haveing said that. Synyster Gates is probably the most talented guitarist of the time at the moment, just watch him play. Talk about the rest of the band not being talented AFTER you've seen or heard what they can actually do. RIP The Rev

holy.shit. what the **** is gonna happen now? OMG THIS is...this is tragic news. the rev was a BEAST drummer and also a great song writer. this is a huge surprise and will disturb the metal world for awhile. RIP
He was really a great guy, I met him once backstage after one of the many times I saw them live. Talented drummer and songwriter, RIP man. A7X is your legacy.
him and britney murphy died of "natural causes" Is that a PR thing to cover up how they really died?

    I had to lol
Met him after an A7X concert in 2008, and got him to sign my album cover. His presence will definitely be missed in future A7X's endeavors. RIP
are you seriously telling me his bandmates couldn't even sign off their tribute statement with their real names? r.i.p.

Death does not make you a legend, nor does it make your talent that more apparent, NOR does it inflate said talent. (ctrl f it). Two words. Micheal. Jackson. Ok sorry not JSUT two words but i need to explain myself. Micheal Jackson was beaten down by the media and practically everyone else for the rape thing. He was either hated or ignored by a large part of the community... until he died. Then he was magically forgiven and everything he had supposedly done was overlooked. He sold more CD's when he was dead than I alive, I think. This isn't a Micheal Jackson bashing comment, i'm just trying to make a point.
That point is simply irrelevant. Michael Jackson remained to be the greatest pop artist in musical history, still having many millions of fans. A7X are a somewhat popular metalcore group. I'd see your point if you had used an artist similar to Avenged's status, but to use Michael Jackson was a stretch that turned into a complete tear.
Oh man this is awful. I wonder why he went? Love you, bro. Heaven's got a hell of a super group now.
