Seattle grunge mainstays Alice In Chains recently relaunched their official band web site and are letting fans know that a "special concert announcement" is planned for next Monday (April 11th).
No further details have emerged as to what the announcement will entail, though the band has experienced more than its share of hardship in the last few weeks and some expect the announcement to address this in some way.
This past Tuesday was the 9th anniversary of the death of Alice in Chains' original frontman Layne Staley. Staley's passing in 2002 after a long battle with drug addiction put the band on an extended hiatus until 2006, when the band began to tour again with William DuVall taking over on vocals.
Last month saw the passing of founding bassist Mike Starr at the age of 44. He was found dead in a Salt Lake City home on March 8th, and while the cause of death is still unknown, evidence seems to suggest Starr succumbed to a drug overdose.
The band has been off the road since the end of the BlackDiamondSkye tour with the Deftones and Mastodon towards the end of 2010, and has been reportedly working on new material.
The band's redesigned web page will be the site of Monday's announcement, and is available at www.aliceinchains.com.
