Alt-Fest Organisers 'Very Sorry' as They Confirm Metal Festival Is Cancelled
The organisers of Alt-Fest, the hard rock and industrial event that's a new addition to this year's festival calendar, have cancelled the event, blaming a lack of funds needed to stage the event.

Despite selling over 7,5 thousand tickets, the organisers of the event has released a statement saying that they do not have the necessary funds to put on the event. Marilyn Manson and Gary Numan were set to perform at the festival, which would have run between August 15-17 at Boughton House in Kettering.

In a lengthy statement posted on the festival's official Facebook page, organisers Dom and Missy explain (via NME) that they required around £1,7m to put on Alt-Fest and ultimately blame poor ticket sales on their inability to raise the funds needed. A costing error made and "poor advice in the early stages" are also blamed.

"We were expecting to sell more tickets based on our line-up," reads the statement. "If we had sold just 3000 tickets more then we would have been over the breakeven line, or if we could have deferred a percentage of our contractor's payment, which they sadly were not prepared to do."

The organisers also apologised for their lack of communication with fans and artists about the status of the festival. "We realise this has severely damaged our personal and professional reputations, we can only sincerely apologise for any additional stress and upset this has caused, we were honestly looking to act in your best interests."

Dom and Missy deny that their festival was a "scam" and confirm that not only is their company going into liquidation as a result of the decision to cancel but that it will also bankrupt them both personally. A list of ways to secure a refund for those who bought tickets is included.

Other artists who were due to plau Alt-Fest were the Cult, Arch Enemy, Cradle of Filth, Covenant, Killing Joke and Peter Hook and the Light.
