Andre 3000 has revealed that Prince gave him a pep talk to overcome stage fright after Outkast's performance at Coachella Festival this year.

The rapper/actor Andre Benjamin, who will be seen shortly in the Hendrix biopic "Jimi: All Is by My Side," told the New York Times about his difficulties of performing live.

Benjamin revealed that the band's poorly received Coachella performance was watched by Prince (and Paul McCartney) standing side of stage. A few days later Benjamin received a personal call from Prince himself.

"It was my first time actually talking to Prince," said Andre 3000. "He said: 'When you come back, people want to be wowed. And what's the best way to wow people? Just give them the hits.'"

Prince also offered some advice on the set list for the reluctant performer. "I'm explaining to him that I really didn't want to do it. He said 'I've been there. I've tried to do other things. After you give them the hits, then you can do whatever.'"

According to Benjamin his final advice was simple: "You're a grown man. You're either going to do it or you're not."

Prince:"Andre, are you thirsty...why don't you go refresh yourself in the waters of lake minatonka?"

Prince sounds like one of the most reasonable, consistently in-control performers, honestly. Plus his album featuring Dave Chapelle's likeness of himself as the art shows an ability to laugh at himself sorely lacking in many stars who have had a fraction of his success

martianking, actually his version of Prince was very baritone. I believe that you are thinking of his Rick James reprisal.

Seen Outkast last night at Electric Picnic in Stradbally, Ireland! (Not Dublin ) They listened to Prince's advice, opened with Bombs Over Baghdad and kept the tunes coming throughout the whole set!

Nice one from Prince. On the other hand, i'm a little surprised Outkast didn't come to that conclusion by themselves.
