Aphex Twin has opened up about upcoming album "Syro," revealing the album's oldest tracks were recorded "six or seven years ago."

AsĀ NME reports, the producer recently announced the record, which is scheduled for release on September 22. It will be his first full-length album since 2001's "Drukqs."

Speaking to Fader, Aphex Twin - real name Richard James - admitted he'd been stockpiling tracks since the release of his last album: "You can kind of have to draw a line under it somewhere," he said. "By banging something out it, it's like the end of the chapter. It properly draws a line under it and allows you to move on."

Describing himself as "a serial killer for sounds," the 43-year-old spoke of immersing himself in a wide-variety of genres. "I buy ridiculous amounts of files," he said. "I always go to that thing, 'Listen to the last eight weeks of whatever'. And it's all those billions of genres, like Scouse house. There's actually better music now than ever, that's ever existed before in my life. It's all kind of good listening stuff."

"I collect sounds from other records so I have to know where they come from and how they're made," he continued. "I bought every old sampler in existence and bought all the sample libraries. Like a serial killer, basically. I've gone through all of the sounds and worked out where everyone got all their sounds from."

James also revealed that "Syro" wouldn't be a one-off record, asserting that the project has him "kicked into gear."

Prior to the announcement, James teased fans with the possibility of a new album by flying a blimp over London bearing the Aphex Twin logo and the digits "2014."

How long until someone starts raging about how this artist doesn't use guitars? Or is that just in the rap related articles?

I'd love to see his collection of "every sampler im existance" - I remember seeing Moby's drum machine collection once, that shit was impressive, this would be just as good

I really like Aphex Twin but I don't see how this is relevant to ultimate guitar. Same goes for all the Lorde news lately.

I knew it wouldn't be long. I'm not sure why people get so angry about general music news, I just love music in general so these types of articles don't seem to make me furious....

The thing that's great about Aphex is even now his music still sounds modern even when he made it in the early 90s he was ahead of his time for sure.
