Despite a hoard of live cancellations this year due to Tony Iommi's cancer treatment, Black Sabbath have announced an intimate homecoming gig in their town of Birmingham next month.

It will be their first live appearance in their hometown in 13 years, an will serve as a warm-up for their headline slot at Download Festival.

The band have been working on their first album in 34 years in the UK while Tony Iommi receives cancer treatment near his home after being diagnosed with lymphoma in January.

Sabbath were forced to cancel the majority of their scheduled performances, though Ozzy Osbourne will tour the same dates as "Ozzy + Friends", comprised of artists including Slash.

Meanwhile, it seems that drummer Bill Ward has not come to a formal agreement to rejoin his bandmates, after declining to sign up to their tour. Ward said he could not participate in the reunion unless he were offered a "signable" contract.

However, with their touring plans changing drastically after Iommi's diagnosis, we could yet see a re-negotiation and the full Sabbath lineup on stage again.

I assume that this announcement means Tony is doing well if he can play a gig at the end of the month?
