Following the classic lineup reunion - featuring mastermind Les Claypool, guitarist Larry Lalonde and drummer Tim 'Herb' Alexander - Primus have officially announced their new eighth studio record, a "Willy Wonka" themed release titled "Primus and the Chocolate Factory With the Fungi Ensemble."

Gathering the masterful trio for the first time in nearly two decades, the album is scheduled for October 21 release via ATO. Pre-orders are already available over on iTunes.

The effort, featuring Critters Buggin percussionist Mike Dillon and Frog Brigade cellist Sam Bass, marks a logical continuation of the group's Wonka-themed Oakland performance on last New Year's Eve.

"I don't think it was until 'Jaws' came along that I was more obsessed with a film, when I started drawing sharks all over my binders and notebooks. Prior to that it was everything Wonka," Claypool told Rolling Stone.

The new announcement was packed to the gills with tasty stuff, as the trio is officially streaming a brand new single. So without much ado, check out "Pure Imagination" below.

Discussing the album's sound, Les added, "As we started putting it together, especially with the expanded soundscape of having string and vibraphone and marimba, it started sounding to me like one of the early Peter Gabriel records meets 'Dark Side of the Moon' meets the Residents. That's what I get out of it. Obviously that's some big-a-s horn-tooting to be doing."

And now, the big announcement - Primus have also confirmed the return of their signature candy bars, made by Pennslyvania's Asher's Chocolate. According to the frontman, joining the candy industry is the band's desperate attempt to get a grip following the music industry's demise.

"The tour and the album are solely a marketing tool just so we can sell candy bars," he said. "That's the whole impetus of this entire project. Because the f--king recording industry rolled over and let this internet sh-t all over us. So we had to come up with another income stream, so we're making chocolate bars because you can't digitize a chocolate bar - yet."

    Primus Sucks!
    ah come one man
I think Les Claypool is a pretty cool guy. Eh slaps bass and doesn't afraid of anything.
I like this but I'm kinda disappointed that it's a cover rather than an original in a similar vein.
this has to be one of the best years of music for me in a while. New primus? Holy crap I cant wait!
Every time I read about this, the Flaming Lips pop into my mind... so glad Primus is doing this first!
