Creed Song Saves Norwegian Boy From Wolves

Sometimes, you never know the power of loud rock until you need it the most. A 13 year-old Norwegian boy found that out in the most surreal of circumstances earlier this week. Spiegel International reports Walter Eikrem was listening to music on his mobile phone as he made his way home from school in the southern Norwegian town of Rakkestad on Monday. Four wolves appeared on the path Eikram usually takes from the bus stop to his home. "I was afraid they would attack me," Walter told the Norwegian tabloid VG. But he didn't let his fear show. Remembering his parents' advice, Walter pulled the earphones out of his mobile phone, turned the volume all the way up and blasted heavy metal music over its miniature speakers. At the same time, he yelled as loud as he could while flailing his arms about wildly to scare off the pack of wild animals. "The worst thing you can do is run away because doing so just invites the wolves to chase you down," Walter told TV2. "But I was so afraid that I couldn't even run away if I'd wanted to." The plan worked. Eikrem said he was able to drive away the wolves by playing the song "Overcome" by Creed. "They didn't really get scared," Walter said. "They just turned around and simply trotted away." Check out the full story at Spiegel International here. Thanks for the report to Hennemusic.com.

This is true. I've never met a wolf who liked Creed and never a Norwegian who didn't.

Goddamnit I thought people were finally done making fun of Creed and on to something else. Seriously, can't you just state why you think Creed is bad instead of insulting them? I could at least respect that, but you have to act like 14 year old underground elitists who care more about the quantity of band t-shirts they have than the quality of the music they "support". I don't even like Creed that much, but it sucks to see how many immature people there are on this site. Shit.

Creed saved a kids life, so you haters and your haterade are just gonna have to put that in your pipe and smoke it. They've sold over 35 million, they're a super cool bunch of guys and they actually consist of talented musicians, so I don't think 10, 12 kids on here and they're propaganda are gonna make a difference... Creed: officially a band that chases off all species Jokes aside, whatever worked to save this dude's life. I would be scared shitless in that situation but it seems that he was rather bold.

Creed didn't necessarily save his life, it could have been any band but it just happened that he was listening to creed, plus he was yelling and flailing his arms anyways which probably helped the most to get rid of the wolves. And i hate creed and i have none of their songs on my ipod. My English teacher played 'with arms wide open' and i took out my ipod almost instantly and listened to rage against the machine.

You probably hate nickelback, fall out boy, panic at the disco and stuff and also lil wayne, kanye west, 50 cent etc. You know tho that rock also has cool sides, creed for instance, or megadeth you mentioned. Rap has the ****ing same thing. BTW: rock have had probably more effect on getting people killed than rap OTHER then rappers killing each others (YES I MEAN LYRICS.)
    Oosh.
... Im not sure the music scared them away... If i saw a kid flailing and screaming, i'd be pretty worried.

Take a listen to a whole album of Creed's and stop conforming to society's mangled opinion on Creed. Learn to like decent music too while you're at it.
    False_God
I somehow highly doubt it was the music that scared them away. After all its coming out of headphones which would not be that loud and not to mention he was yelling etc. So how the fcuk can they say it was the song that saved him? It was he's own actions and not a stupid song.

Creed overall as a band have a very monotonous sound, their singer sounds like he's constipated and he has no range, the lyrics are very generic, their guitarist is over-rated(I'll get to him in a minute), the other musicians in the band are there just for the sake of simply being there, they add no dimension to the sound whatsoever. Being that this is a guitar site, I'll dis-mantle his technique. In terms of soloing, it sounds like he can't do much outside of the pentatonic scale, his flourishes are limited to hammer-ons and pull offs, as far as I can tell he can't sweep pick or tap very well if at all, he doesn't do anything amazing with his right hand technique, his fretboard exploration is very limited and in terms of innovation he hasn't done jack s.hit. Can I make a video of me taking a dump on a creed album instead and send it to you? That seems like a better use of my time.

And to think, some of you actually call yourselves music fans...absolutely pathetic. Actually we all want to hear it. I love all of the creative ways UG users bash other bands, Creed especially because they suck oh so much. You should probably make the distinction between 'music fan' and musician. Musicians can critique music much more efficiently being that we actually know how to play. Personally, I can play any piece of creeds music in my f.uckin sleep. They suck so much it breaks my heart, but I gain solace in the fact that their shitiness transcends species(special?) barriers.
Lol, just because you're a musician doesn't give you an upper hand in bashing other peoples' musical tastes. It gives you a more thorough opinion, yes, but when does having a more educated opinion give you the right to bash other people's opinions? Never, and I don't know what upside down world you live in where it does. I can sense already you're a very egotistical musician. You'll come back down to earth eventually.....hopefully.....

Know what you're talking about before you open you're mouth. Actually, anyone adult enough to know how condescendingly stupid it is to straight bash someone could tell you they don't want to hear it, evidently that wouldn't include you. Sure, musicians can critique music and yeah everyone is entitled to an opinion. But, to sit there and say "Yeah Creed sucks oh so bad." For no legitimate form of reasoning is NOT an opinion, it's a stupid remark. Please, make me a video of YOU playing Creed's "Overcome" guitar solo. I would truly love to see that. sigh...fine here's my critique, it's just boringly obvious where their faults are, but you asked for it. So, not playing any sweeps or tapping makes him a subpar guitar player? Are you joking? There are some really, really good guitar players that don't use sweep picking as one of their techniques. Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Jimmy Page, the list goes on and on... Nothing amazing with his right hand technique? Again, have you even listened or watched any of Mark Tremonti's work before you said that? Probably not. Michael Angelo Batio himself said that Mark Tremonti has a picking hand capable of playing the fastest death metal riffs ever. He has an extremely fast picking hand, even though he doesn't always show it in his music because it doesn't really fit in, he does show it sometimes like in the breakdown to "Isolation" by Alter Bridge. Plus, he's an amazing riff writer and is extremely creative with his riffs and tunings he uses to create his own unique sound. Please, actually listen to him play before you mouth off. From what I can tell, you haven't listened to anything Tremonti has written outside of his singles with Creed and Alter Bridge.

Wow, this is such BS! In the original article, there is absolutely NO reference to the band that were played, it simply says heavy metal. Here is the original(first) article from the local newspaper: http://www.r-a.no/nyheter/article5458260... (it's in norwegian) you can translate it with google translate or something.

No, it's a bandwagon, it's fairly obvious when the name is mentioned and over 2/3rds of the comments are hate comments.

That's besides the point. The point is that if you don't like Creed, why do people still feel the need to bash them in every opportunity they have? What satisfaction can you possibly be getting from bashing the same band over and over? I just don't get why people bash bands just because they don't like them. It's one thing to not like them, that's your opinion, but to bash them for no legitimate reason is completely foolish and idiotic. People need to grow up. If you don't like the band, don't click on an article pertaining to that band just to leave your crap, unoriginal jokes and to have 50 other people repeat it. Let Creed's fans enjoy their music without you constantly raining on their parade.

lol I love how the title says that creed saved his life..it wasn't even the song that saved him-- it was the actions he took to scare them off. He could have listened to god awful myley cyrus and they would say her song saved his life. Jeez >.> Cool that the kid survived, but wrong title to this article

I agree for the most part. Rap gets a very bad representation from the garbage rap you hear on the radio. If they actually played the good rap and hip-hop on radio, I think it would force a lot of rock/metal fans to be a little more open-minded towards rap and hip hop.
