Dave Grohl has revealed (via NME) that he is planning to play shows all over the world with his all-star new band, The Sound City Players.
Grohl has assembled the band, which includes the likes of Fleetwood Mac's Stevie Nicks, as part of the promotion for his new studio documentary Sound City. All members of the band have a history with the US recording studio the film is based on. They performed live for the first time together at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this month.
"We plan to do shows all over the world," the Foo Fighters frontman told Billboard. "When I came up with the idea of taking all these performers to the live stage a few months ago, my idea [was] to have video presentations between each performance. We'll have that at the next shows."
Speaking about his film and how the number of people willing to help him made the project increase in size, Grohl said: "I thought I'd pay tribute (to Sound City) by making a short film and putting it on YouTube. It was right around the 20th anniversary of 'Nevermind' so I thought this will be a nice sidebar that I'm reunited with the board that made that album. Then I got the shortlist of everyone who made an album there and it's not a short list. I called out to as many people as I could, thinking maybe some of them would want to talk and all of them wanted to talk."
The Sound City Players include Stevie Nicks, John Fogerty, Lee Ving, Rick Nielsen of Cheap Trick and Rick Springfield.
In other news, Dave Grohl has also revealed that he already has the music recorded for the next Foo Fighters album as well as drumming on the new Queens Of The Stone Age album and helping new band RDGLDGRN record their debut album at the Sound City Studios.
