Dave Grohl: You Shouldn't Have To Do F-cking Glee

When it comes to using his band's songs on Glee, the Foos frontman sides with Kings of Leon and Slash in the licensing battle.

Dave Grohl: You Shouldn't Have To Do F-cking Glee

Don't count on hearing the Foo Fighters hit "Times Like These" on Glee anytime soon. Frontman Dave Grohl says he and his bandmates are squarely in the corner of Kings Of Leon and Slash. As in, they want no part of the Ryan Murphy-helmed show. "It's every band's right, you shouldn't have to do f---ing Glee," Grohl told THR following the premiere of Foo Fighters: Back And Forth, the new Foo Fighters documentary which just made its South By Southwest debut. "And then the guy who created Glee is so offended that we're not, like, begging to be on his f---ing show f--- that guy for thinking anybody and everybody should want to do Glee." You might be wondering, has Grohl ever actually watched the show? As it turns out, yes, he gave Glee a whirl. "I watched 10 minutes. It's not my thing," Grohl grizzled. But he doesn't have as much of a problem with the series as he does with its creator. Recounting anti-Glee comments made by Slash earlier this year and subsequent retorts by Murphy, reported by THR, Grohl explained to drummer Taylor Hawkins: "The Glee guy, what a f---ing jerk. Slash was the first one. He wanted to do Guns n' Roses and Slash is like, I hate f---ing musicals. It's worse than Grease.' Then [Murphy's] like, Well, of course he'd say that, he's a washed up ol' rock star, that's what they f---ing do.' And then Kings of Leon say, No, we don't want to be on your show.' And then he's like, Snotty little assholes' And it's just like, Dude, maybe not everyone loves Glee. Me included." Said Hawkins: "Yeah, f--- that sh-t." Thanks for the report to HollywoodReporter.com.

I don't think I've ever seen an article summed up as well as what Taylor Hawkins just did I completely agree with Grohl though, the creator hasn't done himself any favours by slamming artists who turn him down, no doubt Grohl and the Foos are the next of many

Yeah the censoring is needless. If you're on this site you are an adult or you are a budding young guitar god. So you either know how to use the word '****' or you need to learn.

F**K yeah! F**K Glee! I never liked it but I despised it more when the butt-hole made a bitch-fit about bands turning the show down. In the picture of Dave w/ the sunglasses, he reminds me a lot of Funnyman from The Boondock Saints. lol

That's mean. I like UGs articles. I think that the UG writers get a lot a crap over nothing. Who cares if the Title is slightly misleading and if you really think there aren't any good articles on this site then why come here? I mean sure sometimes the mods get a little drunk with their "power" to ban on a whim but the writers do a good enough job to not get most of the shit that gets thrown at them. Kudos to the writers to brush these "fans of music" off.

Thats awesome to hear someones speaking out why would the creator of such a garbage show even consider asking talented musicians to be on the piece of sh*t! I didnt know what the show was and i just looked it up Dude YOUR SHOW IS TERRIBLE!!!!!

There goes my Hero, watch him as he rips on the creator of Glee for turning good music into musical bullshit in a flavor-of-the-Month tv show thats how the lyrics go, right?

Unfortunately, that's the epitome of Slash and Kings of Leon.

Said Hawkins: "Yeah, f--- that sh-t." Apparently, Mr Hawkins is an avid KoRn fan...Y'all Want a single say F--- that! Said Hawkins: "Yeah, f--- that sh-t."

WTF? begging to get on the show? i don't hate glee, but i think it would be the other way around, the only people reason people watch glee is because there is music, so don't be trash talking guns'n'roses because people from the 80's won't watch, foo fighters, because then people from the 90's won't watch, kings of leon, people from 2000 wont watch, then your ****ed
    guitarnoob_100
I really don't care about glee,it's a show, it doesn't affect me. But what gets me is the attitude of the creator. He thinks his show is the be all and end all of music television and every artist wants to be on it. Then he throws a little hissy fit when they decline. What an *****.

But Foo Fighters already have 7 albums of original material. Glee has, what, two songs? There's a tremendous difference.

Or stop being a Goddamn sheep to whatever the people on UG make you think? It's a satire of melodramatic teen dramas, and quite obviously so if you have any hint of cultural intelligence...

glad somebody said it. I like how right after anybody shoots down the show the creator just trashed them like they were doing their career a favour anyway.

All I gotta say is yeah, they do some shitty covers, but they do some epic songs on it. And take the songs out of their original context, and put them IN the series and try and understand how they work the songs into what HAPPENING. A good artist can do that. And half yo mofo's (not everyone now) probably have about 1/10000th of the talent some of those people on the show do. Hate the producers, not the people performing. And I completely agree that some artists should totally not let the show use their music, not every song needs to be re-done with a pop twist, bu for example, their version of "losing my religion" is pretty damn good. Hate it if you want, but I like some of their stuff. The well done stuff that is.

Fucking right goddammit! It's about time someone stood up against that joke of a show... Sure, some people will legitimize it by saying stuff like "hate the producers not the performers" etc etc...fine, like the show if you want - there's nothing wrong with that. All I'm saying is, like others have, why does it have to be mostly covers? The answer is simple: using songs people know is an easy way to catch their attention; helluva lot easier than oh I dunno...writing all original songs right? It's a nifty marketing scheme but some songs are best left to the original artists - as is the case with most of the covers I've heard. In the end I guess it is just my opinion...but when I read shit like "half yo mofo's probably have about 1/10000th of the talent" etc etc, honestly? GTFO - it's not about the level of talent or lack thereof, it's really more about how contrived and self-indulgent the show (and its creator) is...

A well thought out paragraph from a Glee fan. I am intrigued and respect you that much more. I hate the idea of Glee, but I don't think I could hate the performers, since it usually isn't their idea to arrange the songs the way they do. Tried it once in passing, didn't like it. But back on topic, f*** yeah, Foo Fighters fightin' the foos!

Thats pretty sad that on a music based site,an art thats synonymous with freedom of speech.is telling us to stop bashing the self-expressing killing monster that is glee.Theres more hypocrisy on UG then in the whole catholic church.Maybe Ug is worried that Murphy may turn his childish tweets against them.
