Death Grips have announced their split, NME reports.

In a post on their Facebook page earlier today (July 2), the hip-hop group wrote that "Death Grips is over." They added that they will still release the second part of their double LP, "The Powers That B," but that all their future shows have been cancelled. The band, which comprised Stefan Burnett aka MC Ride, Andy Morin and Zach Hill, wrote: "We are now at our best and so Death Grips is over. We have officially stopped.

"All currently scheduled live dates are canceled. our upcoming double album 'The Powers That B' will still be delivered worldwide later this year via Harvest/Third Worlds Records.

"Death Grips was and always has been a conceptual art exhibition anchored by sound and vision. Above and beyond a 'band.' To our truest fans, please stay legend."

Death Grips recently released the first half of a surprise double album, called "N-ggas on the Moon," which featured samples of Bjork's vocals. The album can be downloaded for free via the Death Grips Facebook page. The record was the first installment of the double-LP, "The Powers That B." The second part is titled "Jenny Death."

The album is the band's first since last year's "Government Plates" which followed 2011's "The Money Store" and "No Love, Deep Web" as well as 2011's "Exmilitary" mixtape.

Bjork said she was "thrilled" to feature on the record. Writing on her Facebook page, she said: "I am proud to announce my vocals landed on the new Death Grips album! I adore Death Grips and I am thrilled to be their 'found object!' I have been lucky enough to hang and exchange music loves w/them and witness them grow!! Epic: Onwards!!"

This whole band has been surreal from the beginning, only fitting that they vanish in mystery as they had come.
If they signed up to do gigs they should have honoured that commitment before splitting.
I have no problem with a band breaking up because they feel they've peaked but they should honor the dates they agreed to play and then call it quits. That's just professionalism.
"Oh, we're on top of our game guys! So let's split up, cancel all upcoming tour dates (again) including a tour supporting Nine Inch Nails and Soundgarden, give them no notice whatsoever and disappoint our many fans who wanted to see us!". Love their music, but these guys can kiss my ass. Not the first time they've pulled crap like this. Remember a while ago they did that stunt no-show? How stupid.
I listened to them last year when people were raving about them and didn't get all the hype. Listened to two more songs today and still don't understand what people saw in these guys
That's because they are part of the untalented, unable to write music, play instruments, lip syncing, auto tuned younger generation who are destroying music as we once knew it.....
Don't know what you've been listening to, but they certainly aren't any of the above.
has nothing to do with that, I just didn't like their music. I enjoy some "untalented, unable to write music, play instruments, lip syncing, auto tuned younger generation" musicians, just not these guys
You have obviously never listened to Zach Hill play the drums..
not sure if you're saying he's a good or bad drummer. but I was trying to defend them. I never said they were talentless and couldn't play their instruments, I just said I didn't like their music and don't get what the hype was about
yeah Zach Hill can't play an instrument at all...
If you've come down here to the bottom to criticize their music: What the hell are you doing on the page if you don't like them in the first place.
Probably for the best, as sad as I am to see them go. They were pretty damn prolific while it lasted. Zach Hill will keep making crazy music, just not Death Grips.
You'd have to be a hardcore hipster to find this "music" enjoyable.
You have a Korn avatar. Sit down.
What, Korn is not hipster enough for you? No matter how you slice it, Death Grips is pretentious and tone deaf indie hipster "music".
Stop using music in quotations like it's not legitimate. You can think they're the worst piece of shit to exist since humans developed ears but they're most definitely making music, and they're pretty attentive sonically when doing it too.
"Pretentious" is a term that is thrown around far too often these days. That said, I think your own comment truly fits the definition.
Don't have a Korn avatar and make fun of others for tone deaf music...cause you know...being impressively ironic is supposed to be super hipster thing to do. That being said, I don't love Death Grips, but if you've heard 'There's No 666 in outer Space' or the 'Tripper' album by Hella, and still find it worth your time to talk trash about any Zach Hill project...then I'm just not capable of caring about your opinion anyways.
Korn is one of the most influential metal bands there is. A fact.
A band that pioneered Nu-Metal that gave us Limp Bizkit is more like a genocide than influential.
I don't exactly think you'll find very many legitimately metal bands that would cite Korn as an influence...and calling Korn a metal band in general is a pretty enormous stretch (though not a point I'm in the slightest bit interested in arguing about.) Perhaps they had a pretty big hand in shaping all the crappy radio butt-rock that nu-metal has evolved into, but that's something to apologize for, not brag about.
Its funny, the only hipsters I see are on this site who are to proud and elitist to try to listen to any form of new music other than bland rock/metal. Its really so ****ing ironic how people are on this website.
What I find odd is how, this comment has +10, and yet it's bashing UG users. Are all UG users bashers of UG users? I don't know I'm just baffled why someone would get upvotes for insulting the people who would be upvoting, unless this website's community is masochistic or something. Judging by their (our) musical tastes, the case could easily be made.
And lots of people would say you have to be an angsty teenager with a neckbeard to enjoy Korn. OR, we could enjoy music based on quality, and not based on the stereotypes of the people who listen to it.
Don't see how, most of their music is like the Rap/Hip Hop equivalent to Powerviolence or some of the more extreme Hardcore Punk offshoots. There's nothing Hipster about that at all. Their newer stuff is a little more out there and more Noise-influenced, but still. Hipsters are the ones who listen to Indie Rock and Mastodon, remember? They don't normally like anything tougher than Deafheaven. If you want to knock Death Grips for something, knock them for cancelling all their tour dates and screwing over everyone who paid to see them in the future. The music is fine.
I was really looking forward to seeing them open at the NIN/Soundgarden concert. I missed them the last time they were in the area (they actually played that one too).
That sucks. I was going to see them with Action Bronson later in the month, only two decent acts on the whole bill. Anyone who clicks on a link to tell people they've never heard of the artist is beyond useless. What you don't know stretches infinitely, why use your ignorance of something as an argument against them?
