Doors to Reunite for Manzarek Tribute Concert

Krieger and Densmore to reform for tribute show.

Doors to Reunite for Manzarek Tribute Concert
17
Surviving Doors members Robbie Krieger and John Densmore will be reuniting to pay tribute to late keyboardist Ray Manzarek. Speaking to the Hollywood Reporter (via Hennemusic), Krieger spoke about the importance of remembering Ray:

"John and I will be there and we've had a lot of interest. Since he's been gone, we really haven't had any kind of real tribute for him, except at his funeral service. We want people to remember Ray for everything he has done. There are so many musicians and fans who have learned so much from him.

"We want to bring together those who Ray either idolized or guys who idolized Ray, maybe at the Greek or The Hollywood Bowl for a big concert this summer. We've teamed up with Live Nation and they are helping us get it all together. We just want it to be the best it can be."

Manzarek died last year after a long battle with bile duct cancer. He was 74.

Make it a celebration and jam of those who love the Doors and who have been inspired by the Doors from Pearl Jam to Skrillex...

Nice thought, love Ray. But I can't help thinking..what's the point? There was very little point in The Doors without Jim..now also without Ray there's even less. But it's not really a Doors reunion, it's Krieger and Densmore doing a tribute.

Well it's a Doors "tribute". Like its not really supposed to be the Doors reuniting as much as other musicians paying homage to the legacy and greatness that is the Doors.

Ray and Jim will be there in spirit. Although a tribute would be nice, no terrestrial being would be able to come close to modeling their effigy on stage. That pair meticulously performed their art like no other.

Well, I don't see anyone in the article calling it a reunion, only the article title. The members said it's more of a big tribute concert than a reunion.

Totally agree. It's a great idea, but it's hardly a doors reunion without the two members that made the doors who they were

I cried when Ray died, he was my main inspiration for the piano/keyboard. So very happy that he is being remembered like this.

Ian killed it with them, hopefully he is involved. Get Weiland, Iggy Pop, Vedder, and other Morrison worshippers.

Weiland couldn't sing a nursery rhyme let alone anything by the Doors!

Weiland has nothing to do anymore so he could sing the Morrison parts.

He did a killer version of "Break on Through" with the lineup. He is a great fit, plus, in my opinion, he is the only living musician that embodies the rock n' roll persona closest to Jim's.

Sure hope Skrillex can join in, because his collaboration with them was REALLY the peak of their career.

Either someone doesn't get sarcasm or someone actually thought the Doors/Skrillex song was genuinely good...

I don't like the whole idea of The Doors and Skrillex being used in the same context. Please, don't taint the tribute to Ray...
