One of progressive metal's most famous and talented bands, Dream Theater, have always impressed their audience with their ability to seamlessly blend together several genres and styles without sounding forced or pretentious in the process. Instrumental prowess coupled with creative and powerful songwriting made the group successful, but with the departure of drummer Mike Portnoy their future instantly became unclear.
After frantically going through countless rigorous auditions, Dream Theater have finally settled on a new a new drummer, someone who the rest of the group feels will be a suitable replacement for Mike Portnoy. Guitarist John Petrucci has announced that the new drummer's name is
not going to be released yet.
Petrucci (known for playing at a tempo of six billion beats per minute and in time signatures like 69/42) released the following: Hey, everyone. Wanted to quickly let you all know what's been happening lately. I know that the big question is Who is the new Dream Theater drummer?' I also realize that some people are getting frustrated waiting for the news.
Well, auditions went great and we do have someone but we are spending some time getting everything in order before making an official announcement. Let me just say that we are all incredibly excited about our choice and just bursting at the seams to let the world know!
Really? You couldn't just tell us?!
Oh well In other news, Dream Theater will be hitting the studio early next year in January, so we can expect a new album sometime in the near future. Maybe that bit of information will calm down the fans who (once again) just got their hopes up for nothing.
