Duff Won't Rule Out Main Role in Velvet Revolver

Could bass player McKagan replace Scott Weiland as frontman?

Duff McKagan says he would consider fronting Velvet Revolver, but admits he'd rather bring in a specialist singer, Metal Hammer reports.

The bass player revealed the band – in which McKagan and former Guns N' Roses colleague Slash both star – are still looking for a replacement for Scott Weiland, who was sacked in 2008.

McKagan sings in his own project Loaded and wouldn't rule out taking over main mic duties in Velvet Revolver too.

He tells TotalRock Radio: "I would consider it, but I think it's the type of band that it's best if we have a lead singer. I like rocking with Slash. When we play, I like rocking with the guitar players and the drummer and being able to fly around.

"When I sing with Loaded, I can't move at all. I'm playing guitar and I'm singing. I wrote too many lyrics in the songs. There's just too many goddamn lyrics, and you can't ever move away from the mic, except when I jump into the crowd, and then the band's playing and I get back up and I have to sing more."

According to McKagan, he and Slash have been put in touch with a number of potential frontmen, with one being particularly interesting – although it didn't work out.

He says: "We tried out a guy, actually, just a couple of weeks ago. A really good guy, good singer, but it just wasn't the right fit. I get e-mails all the time, 'Hey, check this guy out.' And we have internal e-mails going around."

It appears the singer McKagan is referring to is the same person Slash spoke about last month.

They should just get Myles Kennedy to sing for Velvet Revolver. He is already the singer for Slash's solo group and has an amazing voice!
Yeah, I love Myles and everything, but, uhhhhh, no. I hear word that if VR comes back, it's going to be a full-time commitment and stuff which means all other projects these guys partake in are going to be on hold. That means if Myles joins VR, then that means no Alter Bridge and that's not a world that I want to live in.
The guys I thought would be a good fit would be Ryan McCombs from Soil or Adam Gontier from Three Days GraceOr they could get Weiland back
    chris cornell
chris cornell is my favourite vocalist of all time, however I don't think he would suit VR personally. Plus, it'd mean less Soundgarden (and possible Audioslave/Temple of the Dog) :p
They could kick Dave Kushner out and invite Izzy Stradlin in to play guitar. Then Izzy and Duff could coax Axl Rose to be their vocalist.
Except for 2 points. 1) Izzy had repeatedly said he doesn't want to do the touring that's involved with a major project anymore. 2) Axl tore apart Izzy's tolerance in dealing with a band front man...any front man
Man, what about Sebastian Bach? A washed up with other washed ups - Seems to be a good choice lol
    Irwin Navarro
Perfect choice for the next VR singer would be Chester Bennington. Not only is he a great singer but he also jammed with Slash, Duff, and Matt. And he seems like a humble guy, so yeah, perfect fit.
That would make 2 bands where Chester had replaced Weiland. He should be careful or he will make a reputation for himself
I'm sorry but I'm going to disagree with you. His "impersonation" of Weiland on that track with STP was horrendous. His singing style just doesn't fit. And it doesn't either with VR.
Perhaps controversial, but I'd love to see Fergie do some more work with them. She has an amazing voice and can really rock.
Did you even watch her "sing" Sweet Child o' Mine" with Slash at the Super Bowl? I cannot accept her working with former GnR members ever again. I don't think I could take that, physically or mentally.
COREY TAYLOR!! I saw him rocking some Velvet's tunes duing the King Of Chaos tour and he was awesome!!! He even recorded with VR some demos!
Of course vr is now making a news because guns n roses is now planning to make a new album. This is not a coincidence, this is business. Both this band will benefit from each other if they release an album.
I'd be so down for Duff to sing. Have you guys listened to his solo album from way back when Believe In Me the guy has dynamic
