In a most peculiar string of events that can only happen on the internet, Dying Fetus have officially been confirmed as one of the performers on the upcoming Download Festival 2014. Once Avenged Sevenfold got announced as Friday headliners, a series of enraged fan comments surfaced on social networks. Metal Hammer rounded up such outbursts, singling out one guy (or gal) who basically posted "Why not Dying Fetus?" The matter escalated quickly, as the internet erupted with #WhyNotDyingFetus hashtags, going far enough to actually secure death metallers a spot on the 90,000-people event bill. Soon after the DF announcement, the magazine posted a longer explanation to point out it's about more than just a "goofy hashtag," praising both festival organizer Andy Copping and the band itself as one of the genre's ultimate greats. Dying Fetus frontman John Gallagher was quick to react, saying, "The people have spoken and now it’s time to p-ss in the mainstream! This started as a joke but has turned into something truly incredible! Never underestimate the power of the internet. Big thanks to all our undying fans for making this happen and for the promoters of Download for having the courage to invite us on the fest! Cheers!" The festival itself is scheduled to take place from June 13 through 15 featuring Avenged Sevenfold, Linkin Park and Aerosmith as headliners, as well as Rob Zombie, Fall Out Boy and Alter Bridge as their respective main supports. So if you find yourself rocking out to Dying Fetus at next year's Download, well, thank Avenged Sevenfold.
