Eddie Van Halen's Son Joins Van Halen

Van Halen has officially hired 15-year-old Wolfgang Van Halen -- the son of guitarist Eddie Van Halen and estranged wife Valerie Bertinelli, and nephew of drummer Alex Van Halen -- as the new bassist for the band, according to TMZ.com. Wolfgang replaces longtime bassist Michael Anthony, who left the band earlier this year. Van Halen spokesperson Janie Liszewski tells TMZ.com that Wolfgang, known as "Wolfie," has already joined his dad and uncle for rehearsals in the studio. Wolfie played dates with his father during the band's 2004 tour, and the song "316" on 1991's "For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge" was named for Wolfie's birth date that same year. The band is still without a lead singer, despite rumors that David Lee Roth might rejoin.

man wolfy is a drummer. im suprised hes playing bass, probably because hes ****ing aweful at guitar (yes its true, my friend goes to school with him), and relatively good on drums.

I like this for a couple reasons, i bet he will be a good bassist because he probably plays all the time with his dad. and Van Halen bass lines are mostly simple. The main reason i like this thou is because he will hopefully keep Eddie in line and keep eddie from getting smashed before every concert and he will hopefully keep eddie from beating up dave in the middle of songs.

but seriously Michael Anthony quittting??!??! not cool. I mean, the very first sound anyone heard from VH was Mikes bass line. what is this world coming to???
    which ones pink
I'm sure he knows what he's doing....he probably popped out of the womb with a mini guitar and tapped his way to nursery singing "Ain't Talkin Bout Wuv!!!!"

you know i've noticed a few bands that are family affairs.. AC/DC.. Van Halen.. i'm sure there are PLENTY others. its easiest to get a long with family. and i bet if Eddie was my dad.. i'd play also.

good equipment does NOT make a good musician...although if eddie is as aggod a teacher as he is a guitar player, and is wolfgang is dedicated, he is probably pretty talented....

Either that or the kid's really good. you are dumb... yeah most of the van halen bass lines are simple but that kid is freaking awesome. eddie says he is better than himself. (wolfgang plays guitar mainly). i bet you anything he would tear you ass up...
Yeah, Wolfie's going to be the guy here before too long. Eddie's basically taught Wolfgang everything he knows and as Wolf gets older and more creative, not to mention even better at guitar. He'll take over the jobs of Vai, Eddie, Petrucci and Satriani. Granted Wolfgang had the best possible situation to start out with. It'll be fun to watch.

One more thing...who's going to chug down the Jack daniels every show now?

um..I dont know, this kind makes VH a lot less cool. Now its predominatley a family thing. Brothers in a group is one thing, but now your kids? Whats next their wives and grandparents? I don't think you can really remove the original formula...without mike or dave, this band has been anything but rock n roll...just a family business now. Also wouldn't you hate being the only member not related? Dave barely would have say now if he rejoined...imagine being bossed around by a fifteen year old kid. I hope dave doesn't join because of this...he should keep his pride and stay being a paramedic.

The criterion is that your last name should be van halen

Yeah, I just looked at some recent pictures of Ed. His teeth are brown and looked kind of strung out. It's pretty gross. Although, not Shane MacGowan gross...as far as the teeth goes.

That kid is so lucky. I'm 15 and playing on tour with Van Halen would be a dream come true.

i don't how ****in good wolfie is, Anthony was a huge part of the band. Not only was he a good bass player, but every Van Halen tune stuck in your head has Anthony singing the backup vocals. I'm gonna miss Anthony and his Jack Daniels bass :'(

That's really not all that surprising, the guys in Silverchair were only 15 when their 1st CD came out.
