Evanescence Could Be Over Says Amy Lee

The singer has "no plans" to work with band again - and admits some early material makes her cringe.

Amy Lee has suggested Evanescence could be over by saying she has no plans to work with the band in the foreseeable future.

And she's admitted she's embarrassed about some of the lyrics she wrote in their early years.

Evanescence have been on hiatus since 2012, and were released from their record contract in March following a legal battle.

Lee, who became a mum last month, tells Rolling Stone (via Classic Rock): "The situation is we're not doing it now. I don't like to make predictions about the future, because I'm honestly open-minded, and I would never want to say I'm done with any of it, because it's a huge part of me.

"I've loved my time with Evanescence, I wouldn't want to just throw it away - but, for the foreseeable future, I don't have any plans to do anything with the band."

She says of the band's 19-year catalogue: "People still talk about 'My Immortal' and it's wonderful; but I was 14 or 15 when that was happening. When I wrote 'Bring Me to Life' I was 19. Imagine the things you thought when you were 19 years old.

"I'd be lying if I didn't admit there's stuff on 'Fallen' or 'Origin' that makes me cringe. It's embarrassing - the lyrical content is like my old diary. But I can embrace that innocence because I'll never have that again, it's special."

Well seeing as she basically is the band, I think it would be hard for them to do anything without her...
To be completely honest, and this may hurt a lot of people, Evanescence has been irrelevant since like 5 years ago
To be completely honest, and this may hurt a lot of people, using the term "irrelevant" is ****ing stupid in most cases and has no point whatsoever. Because a band is no longer on MTV doesn't make it worthless.
Effervescence was never relevant. God awful along the lines of Lincoln Park, Stained, Disturbed, etc. New metal go away.
Evanescence* Linkin* Park Staind* Nu-Metal* Please don't discriminate until you can spell.
Are you people serious? Spell? You have to be a special kind of moron to not realize how dumb you come off correcting "Lincoln" to "Likin" or "Stained" to "Staind".
    The Smithe
Staind is the correct way of spelling the band's name. So if anyone here is to blame, it's Aaron Lewis for not getting it right in the first place
Basically, UG has taken the Evanescence-related parts of the Amy Lee's Rolling Stone interview and made it sound a lot more ominous than it is. Amy Lee said the same thing about Ev after the tours for The Open Door were over. Evanescence is paused, really. Besides, Amy is still making music. Her solo album/movie soundtrack comes out in a fortnight. Her music career is certainly not over, not by a longshot. And Evanescence will probably come again in time.
The long awaited return of Ben Moody is imminent. But seriously she was the only original member left, she was the face of the band and she had a hand in most of the latter stuff anyway. Still find it weird that they only did three albums in eight years and have become massive
It felt like the Amy Lee show ever since she forced all the original members out anyway. Evanescence was a band in name only from 2008 onwards
True. She is pretty. No doubt. And I'm a little older than her, so I'm with you. But I don't think the look will work when it comes down to grabbing hold of and expanding her fan base to a younger demographics. I could be wrong. It wouldn't be the first time.
She's pretty?...Wait....let me put on my beer goggles and take another look...I'll get back to you.....
Love to be the guy who says this. The only reason she says they're over is because shes worked so hard to be the complete pain in the ass so called "artist" or "singer" or "musician" she so wishes to call herself, that NO ONE wants to work with her haha.
Except for the members of her band, the musicians she's been working with this year, the musicians she worked with last year...
Do you want me to bring up the musicians shes lost over the years since Evanescences inception?
That's irrelevant. Or do you want me to bring up the utterly brilliant musicians Mikael has "lost" over the years since Opeth's inception?
Death, too, while we're at it. Chuck went through plenty of people, as has Mustaine, for that matter. Sometimes, people who have creative musical genius are also ego-centric control freaks who *gasp!* are hard to work with. That's just the reality of it. It doesn't take away from their accomplishments, though, and Amy has a beautiful instrument (and other things).
All those guys at least write riffs and do more then just sing and lyrics, they write ****ing everything, so it's easy to see why they would have conflictions with the people playing the parts they wrote. Amy is a singer, who can do some Piano, she has nothing really to do with the composition of Evanessance (that was Ben Moody). Ever since he left, Evanessance hasn't been anything at all, so i think it's safe to say she's really not worth much at all to the band other then face/appeal to fat goth girls.
This article's title is stupid as usual, I already read this article yesterday. And yes, some of the older stuff made her "cringe" but she said herself that she embraces it anyways, that was a period in her life when she felt that way as well. UG is so misleading xc
Amy is an incredible vocalist with an amazing 4 octave vocal range. She is not a bad song writer but it seems to me like their biggest downfall was the lack of new material which would come from her trying to do everything on her own. Get back together with Ben and make a kick ass album. But I'm sure these days her focus is on family.
She doesn't have a four octave range. Her range is 3 octaves, and there are better vocalists out there Floor Jansen, Sharon Den Adel, Tarja Turunen etc.
i would assume so. most of her songs are sad and depressing and now she is in a happy point in her life.
I call it Robert Smith syndrome. The Cure's best album was written during one of his worst emotional periods. The Cure (for the most part) doesn't really work as a happy band. I, for one, don't put on the Cure when I'm in a great mood. It's just the nature of the music, as it is with Evanescence.
You know what makes me cringe? Hearing them live.
you know what makes me cringe, the fact people bought that shit in the first place.... another pointless, talentless, less than mediocre band disappears in to obscurity, bye bye....
well , that bothered you that much to come on this post about them and say this things !? its ok to hate something but don't wash ur mouth here ! bye bye
Really? I still have Fallen from when I was 11 and well, it's melodramatic and angsty, but it's not really bad music.
You just explained what I hate about Evanescence and the music itself isn't really good so it's not worth it at all...
Who likes gothic chics in their thirties? She just had a kid, too. I mean, for how long can she look like a pale, heavy eyeliner vampire wannabe and still be taken seriously? Sure, she should work on other projects. Wish her luck. P.S. Stevie Nicks still dresses like a witch from the Salvation Army, but at least she was in Fleetwood Mac.
I'm early 40s, so I'd take a goth chick in her 30s, haha! (Especially Amy, wow! And babies happen, deal.)
Let me just divide by the number of ****s I don't give about this bitch and her vanity project she stole from her old boyfriend...oh no, black hole!!
She says this a lot, but considering she has no contract obligations, i think this is happening. Too bad. The last album was solid. Had a riff-based feel to it, much like Fallen. Great drumming, too.
Hated them when they were around, now I kinda miss them tbh.
Not sure why she'd cringe. Those lyrics were not badly-written at all, even if she's moved on from those phases in her life or whatever.
