First Clip of Andre 3000 as Jimi Hendrix Appears Online

Legendary OutKast member is seen as the iconic guitarist in new biopic.

Ultimate Guitar

The first footage of Andre 3000 playing Jimi Hendrix has surfaced online.

The OutKast singer, who is billed under his real name Andre Benjamin, is taken from the upcoming Hendrix biopic "All Is by My Side." As Classic Rock reports, the film is about the two year period in Hendrix's career that leads up to his show stopping performance at Monterey Pop festival in 1967.

"All Is by My Side" debuted at the Toronto International Film Festival last year, will premiere in the US next week at South by Southwest in Austin, Texas. The film, which was not approved by the Hendrix estate, will not feature any music from the iconic guitarist. Instead, new versions of covers played by Hendrix have been used. Director credit for the movie goes to John Ridley, who was the writer of Oscar winning movie "12 Years a Slave."

What do you think of the clip? Does Andre 3000 deliver as Hendrix? Will you be going to see the film? Let us know in the comments.

That's awesome, he looks and sounds just like Hendrix, even got his shyness down perfect.
I Was curious how his Southern Accent was going to sound as Jimi, but yeah this sounded awesome as him speaking. Been an Outkast fan since 97, and love Andre. Hoping Big Boi will make a Cameo
YES! Andre has his voice and facial expressions/movements completely down. That's incredible.
It's a shame the Hendrix family didn't jump on this one though. Looks great.
I agree, the filmakers are trying to honor Hendrix. I am confused why they would not let them use the music.
Simple put: Because of money. It's always about the mighty dollar and in this instance, it's unfortunate because it would've definitely made this movie that much better.
As good as this looks, I'm not sure how you can have a movie of Jimi Hendrix and not have his music in the movie. It will be interesting to see how they pull it off.
This clip reminded me strongly of 'Control', for obvious reasons. I sincerely hope this film will take that route, and will shy away from what the Hendrix estate has dubbed as 'Austin Powers-like'.
I got chills, really looking forward to this now! I was always a little nervous it would suddenly get dropped or run into an issue like the Queen biopic and Sasha. It looks fantastic.
i was fully prepared to diss this before even hitting play i admit.... then i heard his voice the ****er got it right ****in on.
He nails it, but if they can't play any of his original music, what's the point of making this movie?
It's not so much about the music, but more the man himself.
I'm sorry, but yeah, maybe for some people (Courtney Love) you can separate the man/woman from the music, but not Hendrix. Also, I think I have an answer for the woman at the end of the clip: it's called "Wrote a Song For Everyone" and it was performed by Creedence Clearwater.
