Foo Fighters Draw Huge Noise Complaints At Belfast Festival

Organisers of a festival in Belfast found themselves embroiled in a spat with neighbours on August 21 night over noise complaints following Foo Fighters' headline set. The performance on the first day of the Tennent's Vital Festival, drew complaints from residents up to four miles away, reports BBC News. Businesswoman Grainne McGarvey said: "I pretty much heard every ooh and ah and beat of the drum," while Eileen Fee who lives about a mile away from the concert venue in Osborne Park, said it was so loud her "windows shook". She added: "I just thought I was at the concert, that's how loud it was. It was really impossible to do anything else at home." Local councillor Claire Hanna said she received a number of calls over the noise. She said: "It was exceptionally loud. I welcome that we have concerts of this level but we do have to balance it with the right of people to enjoy a quiet night at home. Most residents understand that people want to enjoy a night out but a second night at the same level might provoke a few more calls." The issue of volume levels at festivals has taken centre stage in recent weeks, after the sound at this summer's shows in London's Hyde Park were deemed too quiet by many. Foo Fighters meanwhile will headline this weekend's Reading and Leeds Festivals. Thanks to NME for the report.

Best way to solve this argument is to just turn the music louder until it drowns out the complaints.

I would have called all my friends and made them pay to hang around my house, LOL.

Was best gig I've been to and I've been to quite a lot, it was clearly advertised and people could only hear it so far away cos it was such a still night. Black Keys were on before them and were also fantastic.

When you get complaints that your music is too loud, that's when you know you're good rock n roll band.

As a "businesswoman", I'm sure you'd be aware of how much revenue a festival like this brings in to your city. It was only one evening, count your money and quit your bitchin

Brilliant concert. And I agree with ^this guy. It definitely didn't seem that loud. I've been to gigs where my hearing was messed up for a couple of days after, but my hearing was still normal after the concert. It was probably because of the still night and the lack of any tall buildings etc. near the venue that it traveled so far. Very exposed there

Ah! I Love You, Dave! Always into some form of mischief! Keep shakin' them rafters, Grohl! Four miles away & you could listen to the Foo Fighters for free? That's a sweet deal, kid!

why the **** does everyone love dave????!!!!! i mean i bet you would blow if he asked you too

@MR.LZZYHALE, fresh pots, kid (or in other words, wake up.) He's a fun guy to watch, has a great personality, and is a humble person. Grohl has a benevolent soul, he is a positive person, and people tend to like positive people. You should try being positive for change, you might surprise yourself.

Sensationalised story. They didnt draw 'huge' complaints. There were a few complaints and not just for the foos. I was a mile and a half from the venue and couldn't hear it in the house. The same people complained about Florence and the machine on the second night. Obviously the complainers are miserable ****s but thats neither here nor there. This is a non story.

120 apparently, it didn't seem that loud to me when I was there either. Although I could hear the bands playing on the 2nd day the next day with the windows open and I live on the outskirts of the holy lands.

T Vital is 2 days, only two days and both nights ended at 10:45, ffs people will moan just for the sake off it.

Why this headline ultimate guitar ? Why not print something positive instead of highlighting the only slight negative on the foos first Belfast gig.

That's what happens when you live close to a venue. Where I live, I can hear every concert and event that goes down. You just have to deal with it...
