Foo Fighters Lead Rock Grammy Nominations
22
Foo Fighters are among the rock leaders in the latest round of Grammy nominations - but they're up against some stiff competition. Dave Grohl and his foo fighting cohorts have a total of six nominations, including Album Of The Year and Best Rock Song. They have won a total of six Grammys in the past, with the last being for Best Hard Rock Performance in 2008. Others rock artists who could be called to the stage include Mumford & Sons, Coldplay, Mastodon and Red Hot Chili Peppers. Dream Theater have been given a Grammy nomination for what appears to be the first time in their lengthy career, for Best Hard Rock/Metal Performance. Korn's dubstep collaborator Skrillex has appeared in several categories, officially taking the new genre of dance music into the mainstream. Here is a selected list of rock categories. For a full list of nominees, visit the Grammy website. Who should win in each? Share your opinion in the comments. Best Rock Performance

Rock music still exists?!? No way? I couldn't tell with Coldplay being a nominee for best rock performance....
      Joel2313
Coldplay is more pop than anything, if they win an award with the word 'Rock' on it, it'll be a shame p.s. How cool would it be to see Lotus Flower by Radiohead win (look it up on youtube if you wanna know what I'm talking about lol). I think Radiohead deserves at least one award.

I have a feeling Curl of the Burl's going to win out hard rock/metal, but Wasting Light is going to take rock album. And Walk? I'd expect Rope there.

Wow, completely did not expect Sum41 to be on these lists, that's nice Though Foos should win without a doubt

whats the difference in rock song and rock performance, the nominees are exactly the same!
      Joss_Frusciante
Hahahaha Even one of Foo Fighter's remixes got a nomination (By Deadmau5) I wonder If Dave is paying someone off... Hahahahahaha The Foos and The Chilies have still got the foot in the door for rock then

Someone can explain me the difference between rock performance and rock song? The nominees are the same!

the fact that the manchester orchestra are not on here is disturbing. since when was cold play rock?
      FlyingPirahna
Four of those rock songs aren't even rock. Tell me that Coldplay or Mumford and Sons are rock with a straight face, and I'll eat my own feet.

Besides Sum 41 the Metal category is actually solid. nice to see Mastodon and Dream Theater get some love, even if the songs nominated aren't my favourites from the new records.

look up the songs, the bitter end (which is a metallica tribute), blood in my eyes, screaming bloody murder, 88. all these songs and many more are very hard rock/metal oriented.

agree with the "Walk" bashers, I like it as a track, but Rope, White Limo, Arlandria, not to mention Miss The Misery, I should have known, and Bridge Burning... all better, but it shows that WL is their most consitent album in a decade, look at the 2 previous albums and if walk was on there it may heve been a standout track... Oh and I'm With You sees RHCP sounding their freshest since Californication...

HAHAHAHAHA Also, go Dream Theater! I really think that A Dramatic Turn of Events should be considered in the album section.

If Foo Fighters win all-genre Album Of The Year the world will spontaneously explode.

Good to see DT on there. Not the best song from the album, but I ohpe it wins that category. Foos should take the rest of their nominations, though.

+1 It's probably a little unfortunate for Mike Portnoy to see DT having a nomination right after he's gone, when they never got a nomination for all the years that he was there. You can never take these things to serious, it's like those top 10 best guitar players of all time lists. It's more a popularity contest than actual facts anyway

Rock's dull these days, at least according to America. Foster the People are bubble-gum pop hipsters, The Peppers have had the same sound since Californication, Coldplay are one with the dying big label music industry, and the people who deserve this fame and theses awards (Mastodon, Radiohead, Jeff Beck) won't win. The Grammy's have no credibility. Also, Eddie Vedder's nominated for Best Folk Performance for "Ukelele Songs," hope it gets some recognition.

I'm glad there are more actual rock bands being nominated now. Instead of having 2 or 3 perennial bands, glad to see Mastodon and Dream Theater getting nods. I would like to have seen Blink's new album on alternative, but they seem to be getting better at nominations at least
      Thumper!
Megadeth should win best performance. Public Enemy No. 1 is their best commercial song since Symphony of Destruction. Other than that, the Foo's should win the rest of them.
      tilmitt52
Hard Rock is gonna be a toss up between Foos and Mastodon... Or at least it should be.
      rasmusschulz
At first i was like: "Fuck yeah! Rock's still alive!" ...And then i saw Coldplay was nominated for best rock song and performance.. Rock's doomed!

foo fighters deserve it, great show at madison square garden. +1 for bringing out joan jett for "bad reputation".

Not by a long shot. As a Megadeth fan I found the new album boring (even after multiple listens). Flame on if you want, but I think "The System Has Failed" and "United Abominations" were way better albums and Im not quite sure what Broderick brings to the band besides excess guitar wankery. Dream Theater and Mastodon both released far better albums this year.

"Best Rock Performance" and "Best Rock Song". Somebody tell me the difference of these two categories.

Are these the same Grammy's that voted Jethro Tull as the best live act over Metallica?
      TimTheWizard
...and the Grammy's prove again to be the shittiest awards ever! Seriously, there are other and far better music releases than this, even SKRILLEX is nominated? Whatthef*ck!
      Slivarito
I would love to see The Decemberists get something... severely underrated band in my opinion, and the last album was fantastic. But considering who they are up against... it's not likely haha.
      risewtf2
i don't really agree with some of the music categorizations. "Rock" is a very overgeneralizing term these days, people just take anything and call it "rock n' roll" but i do not believe that doing so is accurate. i would categorize Coldplay as pop or alt. in other news, i want Foo Fighters and Dream Theater to win
