Foo Fighters Lead Rock Grammy Nominations

Rock bands still have a place in the biggest rock awards, with Foo Fighters leading the pack and Dream Theater receiving their first nomination ever.

Foo Fighters are among the rock leaders in the latest round of Grammy nominations - but they're up against some stiff competition.

Dave Grohl and his foo fighting cohorts have a total of six nominations, including Album Of The Year and Best Rock Song. They have won a total of six Grammys in the past, with the last being for Best Hard Rock Performance in 2008.

Others rock artists who could be called to the stage include Mumford & Sons, Coldplay, Mastodon and Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Dream Theater have been given a Grammy nomination for what appears to be the first time in their lengthy career, for Best Hard Rock/Metal Performance. Korn's dubstep collaborator Skrillex has appeared in several categories, officially taking the new genre of dance music into the mainstream.

Here is a selected list of rock categories. For a full list of nominees, visit the Grammy website.

Foo Fighters don't deserve a single win, this album's really not doing anything for me; Jeff Beck never has. Mumford and Sons is a fantastic band, they deserve some recognition, they're a folk band if you really want to get crazy about the whole genre specification thing, but some of the arguments you guys get pissed off about here are ridiculous. They're close enough to rock. Lotus Flower's a pretty good song I think, I don't usually like Radiohead, and I think they're so unbelievably overrated... being around Radiohead fans for more than five minutes kills me. They could win and I wouldn't be upset. That Come Around Sundown album's actually pretty good, if you guys want to give KOL shit because they got popular or aren't metal, you're full of it. I'm With You is also pretty good, and I like the Chili Peppers enough to where I'd be happy for them getting a win whether I personally liked the album or not. Sure it's not the funk craziness the Peppers used to bring, it's not a sick guitar album, but it is good. It took a while for me to come around to it, but I have come to thoroughly enjoy it. Circuital...Jim James is a really bad singer, Holding on to Black Metal sucks, Circuital, Outta My System, Wonderful, and You Wanna Freak Out are good songs, but the others I have to convince myself are good every time I listen to them. I've never heard anything remotely bad by WILCO, I'm not an expert on that band, but they keep popping up on Pandora for me, and I really like them. Bon Iver's voice is totally overrated, and this album mostly sucks, and Death Cab always sucks. That Decemberists song is really good. Best Rock Performance The Decemberists (Mumford won some last year I think, and The Cave isn't better than this song) Best Metal Performance Sum 41 (Just to spite all you metalheads) Best Rock Song Radiohead (if this is actually a different category, I'll give it to them, they don't get performance because any live performance I've seen them do of this has been awful.) Best Rock Album Red Hot Chili Peppers (I don't remember if what I heard by Wilco was off the new album, and I'm just not familiar with the band as a whole enough to pick them over the Chili Peppers. BSSM taught me how to play bass.) Best Alt. Album Radiohead (I have no opinion on Foster the People, Pumped up Kicks is cool, but everything else I've heard by them I've been completely indifferent to) If anyone cares, there's my complete opinion.
If the wilco album doesn't win best rock album my feelings about the grammys will be perpetuated. the whole love kicks the shit out of every other album on there. and i really like a few of the bands nominated.
Everyone's freaking out that Coldplay was nominated alongside the Foos, but I'm just glad Lulu's not on this list.
Love the Foos, after Arcade Fire won Album of the Year last year, it is a good possibility for Dave & co. Anyway, I would have liked to see some love for Arctic Monkeys - Suck It and See.
best rock song the cave. best album im with you by the chillies which imho is a stronger overall album than wasting light (huge fan of both) everything else the foos should sweep

Because some of their music is hard rock/metal. I mean, the first song on their first album is a Metal instrumental...
I still don't understand how Avenged Sevenfold hasn't been on here yet. You don't have to like them, but there is no denying their success in rock music as of late. They need to replace Sum 41 on there.
If I had a vote: Best Rock Performance Foo Fighters - "Walk" Best Hard Rock/Metal Performance Mastodon - "Curl Of The Burl" Best Rock Song Radiohead - "Lotus Flower" Best Rock Album Red Hot Chili Peppers - I'm With You Best Alternative Music Album Foster The People - Torches
I'm happy for The Foos but Fuck the Grammys, last year Metal had it's own category, now it's fused with Hard Rock? I'm starting to think Disturbed was right... and Last year Iron Maiden won their first Grammy, THEY SHOULD OF WON ONE 30 YEARS AGO! I thought Lamb of God deserved it, at least LOG is a young band.
Lapidus wrote: "Walk"??? Damn, one of the weakest track of the record, anyway...
Walk is by far my favorite on the album. A song doesn't have to be heavy to be good. Just listen to the lyrics.
I would love to see Foo Fighters rip it up, but **** Dream Theater Deserve that Metal/Hard Rock award.... Then again I love White Limo, oh the choices I have to make!
Even though I love the foos and Mastodon I'de really like to see Megadeth win something, but I'de be happy with any of these nominated for best rock/metal performance to win. All these nominations seem pretty good, except I think Coldplay are in the wrong section.
Best Alternative Music Album Bon Iver - Bon Iver Death Cab For Cutie - Codes And Keys Foster The People - Torches My Morning Jacket - Circuital Radiohead - The King of Limbs ....wheres the Foos on there?
im proud for these guys and i know they are gonna win because the grammys are a big popularity contest, but i think that megadeth should have been nominated for more awards. their new album is so killer

HAHAHAHAHA Also, go Dream Theater! I really think that A Dramatic Turn of Events should be considered in the album section.
Best Rock Performance Radiohead - "Lotus Flower" Best Hard Rock/Metal Performance Mastodon - "Curl Of The Burl" Best Rock Song Radiohead - "Lotus Flower" Best Rock Album Jeff Beck - Rock 'N' Roll Party Honouring Les Paul Best Alternative Music Album Radiohead - The King of Limbs
Best Rock Performance Coldplay - Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall Best Rock Song Mumford and Sons - The Cave Best Rock Album Foo Fighters - Wasting Light Best Alternative Album Radiohead - The King of Limbs
The only problem I have with this is them getting a nomination for Best rock performance and best metal performance. That doesn't make any sense no matter how you look at it.
god these people don't know any rock band other than foo fighters and radiohead? and how is coldplay nominated for best rock song? seriously, these people should stop listening to the mainstream radios and start listening some rock/heavy metal so that next year they know what they are talking about. morons
Thumper! wrote: Megadeth should win best performance. Public Enemy No. 1 is their best commercial song since Symphony of Destruction. Other than that, the Foo's should win the rest of them.
Not by a long shot. As a Megadeth fan I found the new album boring (even after multiple listens). Flame on if you want, but I think "The System Has Failed" and "United Abominations" were way better albums and Im not quite sure what Broderick brings to the band besides excess guitar wankery. Dream Theater and Mastodon both released far better albums this year.
there are people who still care for the grammys? the fact that kanye west (whose album (not the one with jay-z) is pretty much the only album worth mentioning) isn't nominated for album of the year pretty much emphasise that the grammys are completely irrelevant.
burghUK wrote: Every foo fighter song sounds the they have won 6 grammy's is beyond me. And how the f*** is coldplay and mumford & sons considered rock?...jesus. I don't want to live in this world anymore.
What Foo Fighters have you been listening to? They have some of the most diverse music out of any rock group that's around now.
BvdL wrote: Why isn't Let England Shake here if Coldplay is?
THANK YOU, I'm glad somebody said it. Great album. Great artist. Painfully overlooked far too much.
If the Foo's don't win every award they're nominated for other than the one where they're up against "Curl of the Burl" it will be concrete evidence that there is no god.
cant believe cold play is on the list. seems the credibility of Grammys got sold..
I love Foo Fighters, and I love hard rock and metal, but White Limo is a terrible song by them.I'm amazed it was actually nominated.
I would be so stoked if the Foos won album of the year with something they recorded in Dave's garage. Love that band to pieces.
As much as I like the Foo Fighters and their new album, it's a sorry state of affairs to see them be the only damn rock band worth anything anymore, and they're a shell of their former selves as it is. Grammys are a joke too.
Give Dream Theater the metal performance one, th prog metal genre could use some ****ing attention. Also on the backs of angels is a much better song than white limo. Foo's for everything else though. All that being said
Give Dream Theater the metal performance one, the prog metal genre could use some ****ing attention. Also on the backs of angels is a much better song than white limo. Foo's for everything else though. All that being said, Sym X's iconoclast (the song), Protest the hero's C'est La Vie or DT's breaking all illusions (easily the best song on the album) could do with some damn awards. Brilliance is often overlooked by mediocre yet popular bullshit.
The fact that they put Sum 41 in hard rock metal category is disturbing...that album was shite!
