Foo Fighters have set a date for their fan-funded gig in Richmond, Virginia.

As previously reported, Foo Fighters will play the gig following a campaign by fan Andrew Goldin, who started an online campaign to bring the band to the town for the first time since 1998.

A tweet from the band sent earlier on September 3 confirmed both the venue, the 1,500 capacity National Theatre, and the date - September 17. "Let's do it. If you pledged, check your email for details!" reads the tweet (via NME).

Dave Grohl recently said that crowd-funded gigs could represent the future of live music, suggesting that Foo Fighters would play more shows similar to their Richmond date.

Foo Fighters' new album "Sonic Highways" will be released on November 10 and is the band's eighth studio effort. The vinyl release of "Sonic Highways" will come with an assortment of nine different covers including eight themed around one of the cities in which the album was recorded: Austin, Chicago, Los Angeles, Nashville, New Orleans, New York, Seattle and Washington, DC.

Meanwhile, Foo Fighters are to return to the UK stage at the closing concert for the Invictus Games in September. The event takes place at London's Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park on September 14, and sees Dave Grohl and co top a line-up that also includes Kaiser Chiefs, Ellie Goulding, Ryan Adams, the Vamps, Rizzle Kicks, James Blunt, Diversity and Military Wives Choirs. The 26,000-capacity outdoor concert will take place on the south lawn of Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park from 5pm to 10pm and highlights will be broadcast by the BBC.

Let's get the Foo Fighters to play a show for UG via live stream, where we vote for a set list and have a live chat going at the same time.
I saw their live stream concert in theaters after seeing Back and Forth. It was cool! I'd like to see that again. That being said, I think even Foo felt a little weird doing that without being able to see their crowd.
    Good choice of photo
I have a picture just like that on my phone! He freaking posed and smiled for me! Context: I was lucky enough to be right up front for their last-minute show at the Metro in 2011. Pretty much the best concert of my life so far!
It's incredible new developments like this that make me wish the record companies stay in the past.
Fuck me, I live an hour away and didn't have the money while the tickets where being sold.. There goes my chance of seeing Foo for this tour
