Foo Fighters To Take Hiatus?

Grohl suggested the band will be taking an extended break, but it could mean the band are about to enter the recording studio. What do you think?

The Foo Fighters are rumored to be taking an extended hiatus following on-stage comments from Dave Grohl. The rumors began when Grohl told a crowd of 60,000 in New York's Central Park "this is it". "Without making a big deal out of it, we don't have any shows after this", said Grohl (via NME). "This is it, man. Honestly I don't know when we're gonna do it again... and this is the perfect place to do it". Grohl added: "I don't know when, but we'll see you again". However, we think fans have nothing to worry about. The band is likely to be entering the studio to record the followup to 2011's wildly successful "Wasting Light". In late 2011, Grohl said: "If you would have told me 17 years ago that in 2012 I would be writing songs for our 8th studio album... well...". If this proved to be true, the band could have been an album over the year. Of course, the band could simply be burnt out from extended tours and need a break in the run up to Christmas. Grohl's also had his hands busy producing the forthcoming Sound City documentary which tells the story of the legendary recording studio which was home to dozens of classic records, including Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit". Do you think a new Foos album is imminent? Have you seen them on this tour cycle? Let us know what you thought in the comments.

And they found the picture of Dave Grohl being fingered I see.

Looks more like he's having an adverse reaction to 'milk'.

Actually I think this is from when he walked into the kitchen and discovered there were no more FRESH POTS!!!

I thought we had all agreed that Justin Bieber was pregnant!? It was WAY funnier!

"Without making a big deal out of it, we don't have any shows after this. This is it, man. Honestly I don't know when we're gonna do it again." I see no indication that this means they're going on a hiatus. Just sounds like something anyone would say during the last gig of a tour.

If this proved to be true, the band could have been an album over the year. So first the Foo Fighters was just Dave Grohl, then it was a full band, and now it's an album??

They just posted this on Facebook: Hey everyone... Dave here. Just wanted to write and thank you all again from the bottom of my heart for another incredible year. (Our 18th, to be exact!) We truly never could have done any of this without you... Never in my wildest dreams did I think Foo Fighters would make it this far. I never thought we COULD make it this far, to be honest. There were times when I didn't think the band would survive. There were times when I wanted to give up. But... I can't give up this band. And I never will. Because it's not just a band to me. It's my life. It's my family. It's my world. Yes... I was serious. I'm not sure when the Foo Fighters are going to play again. It feels strange to say that, but it's a good thing for all of us to go away for a while. It's one of the reasons we're still here. Make sense? I never want to NOT be in this band. So, sometimes it's good to just... put it back in the garage for a while... But, no gold watches or vacations just yet... I'll be focusing all of my energy on finishing up my Sound City documentary film and album for worldwide release in the very near future. A year in the making, it could be the biggest, most important project I've ever worked on. Get ready... it's coming. Me, Taylor, Nate, Pat, Chris, and Rami... I'm sure we'll all see you out there... somewhere... Thank you, thank you, thank you... Dave

Honestly, I think they're just taking a bit of a break like all bands do, especially after how intensive the last album and tour was on them. They all have a family and kids now, so I'm sure they want some time to focus on that for a bit before hitting the road again. Regardless, I hope this means Them Crooked Vultures will start up again. They NEED to return!

Truth. TCV is one of the best, if not the best, rock album of 2009
    Elderer
Wonder what he'll do then, TCV dare I says? QoTSA album is being finished but release is marked for spring 2013. JPJ and Josh both said they dont need to tour- just put out an album. Wishful thinking...maybe Probot vol.2?
    randomhero65
PROBOT vol.2! I need Probot Merch!
    Soundservant
YES. I can't even seem to get my hands on a physical copy of the first Probot. There's none in the stores and I ordered a copy online ages ago and it hasn't arrived and I don't think it will.

What if Dave was reading this article and decided to post the thing on facebook?
    RC52190
What if he was the one who liked this comment too? ...So you mean to tell me that all it would mean is that he would have posted the article to Facebook, and liked the comment?! Wow, that's an intense hypothetical situation.

So basically, 'Foo Fighters might be taking a hiatus but then again they might not'

Don't see the big deal here. Bands take "breaks" from the strenuous musician's life all the time, but many times it's just so they don't wear out. Taking some time off and taking a hiatus are two totally different things. Didn't hiatus rumors circle around after Echoes, Silence, Patience, and Grace and then they hit us with possibly the best album of their career? If time away from music results in album that amazing again, fine by me!

PLEASE START PROOF READING YOUR ARTICLES!!!! "If this proved to be true, the band could have been an album over the year." It would only take 15 seconds to read over this and realise it doesn't make sense before posting it. I realise UG is not like a big corporation but with the amount of advertisements surely you have the money for a proof reader.

Dave posted a letter on his FB page clarifying that he meant what he said, he wants the band to go on as long as possible so it makes sense to "put it in the garage" for awhile. He wants to focus on his Sound City film project, he says.

Yeah I'm definitely craving some new TCV. But sadly i'm sure that wont happen for some time since Queens if finally coming out with a new record and likely a tour. If Josh hadn't been dragging his ass on it for the last 5 years though and sueing people that could have been done by now.

I have so much respect for Dave Grohl without being a brown noser fan. This guy has done it all....and with a smile the entire time. Very few people walk this earth with his talent, demeanor, and pure love for music.
    RC52190
Yea but with most bands, that would be because they just don't have any successful places left to tour. The Foo Fighters CHOOSE where and when they want to play and venues just say "okay you're in" so to me it sounds more like they're choosing to not tour for a while, which could mean a hiatus. However, they don't specifically state that anywhere at all...
    frehley freak
Theyre simply doing what they did last time... take a little break for themselves. If the result is another Wasting Light? Bring it! Remember the last break gave us a FF documentary, Them Crooked Vultures, The Coattail Riders, Sunny Day Real Estate Reunion, a new Wallflowers album and The Dead Peasants. Its all good.

"If this proved to be true, the band could have been an album over the year." What?

I've seen some YouTube videos of the tour where, before they play "Everlong," he says they're gonna write some new material and come back.

If any band deserves it, they're one of them. Seriously, 2 hour shows, 2 year long tours, constant moving... I'm sad, but let them go back to the families. When they come back, the next album will be killer!
    RC52190
3 hour long show at the one I was at... They're ridiculous; I love them. As a band they've earned the freedom to do whatever the **** they want to do, and we, as fans, should respect that because of how great they've been over their 17 years... Hopefully they'll return with some fresh ideas too.
    CateringCowards
Exactly, and being one of, if not the only rock bands in the "mainstream" and still do basically whatever they want at this point, makes me proud to call myself a fan.
    bearmod
I feel like this is being taken out of context like it was a few weeks ago. I don't remember where exactly it was, I know it was in Europe, but he said basically the same thing he did here and he just meant he didnt know when they'd come back to that specific venue/country. I hope that's what it is anyways.
    Vicious_Turtle
i just wrote a big diss on dave grohl and how to write a foo fighters song but it didnt post it. suck my dick UG
